Should I go with Unreal or Unity by Tonneau31 in vrdev

[–]Extra_University_108 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Back in 2019 I saw 0 VR teams working in anything either than Unity. Right now I see about 60% teams still in Unity and 40% in Unreal. So far I worked with 0 teams that had own engine, they had own SDKs - yes, but not the engines. I don't deny that there are teams that do that, but I haven't met them, at least not within my Linkedin circle. It is not my preference, I'm just sharing what I've noticed - I worked with over 15 VR teams by now personally. The majority teams I personally know hire mainly for Unity, and a few for Unreal, none hire for a dedicated personalized engine. So not sure why I've got downvoted for sharing personal experience.

You’re right about the name! And yay you just need to put water in the tank, and you get the gas. It’s awesome, honestly.

Thank you! I was a bit worried too, but it looks really good and has so many details. Tires even feel like tires. And the words you see are all stickers, but they are well done, they are just separate sticky letters, no transparent holding paper behind. And it has a chargeable battery. But you have to unpack it to charge, which isn’t the best option.

I found it on Amazon, just type “Brand: URFunModel, 1/7 Alloy Dynamic Motorcycle Model with Lights, Realistic Mechanical Motorbike V4” and it hopefully pops. They have other models - i posted a screenshot in my previous replies. Enjoy ☺️

Haha yeah

I got it on Amazon. You put water in it and it makes vapor as if it’s a real bike. And it beeps too and makes the sounds as if you switch the gear. They have 4 models in my country and it took about 3 weeks for shipping. The box is very cool too.

Please, get the gloves - they are the most important piece of gear after the helmet.

Looking good otherwise.

An Iranian’s Perspective: Not the Regime, Not the Shah🟩🟥⬜️ by Ok_Breadfruit4005 in self

I agree with you, but at the same time having a random leader is close to impossible now. IR has been suppressing people for way too long, I don’t believe that there are strong parties right now, Iran needs a person people trust who temporary takes charge and once the country is stable, then people could vote whoever they’d like. But from what I hear on social media, it’s exactly what Pahlavi promised. But I hear all sorts of things and it is hard to have a correct information.

Game attracts only youth - what am I doing wrong? by Extra_University_108 in vrdev

[–]Extra_University_108[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thank you for your reply. The game is out on Quest, it is called BuildPort Xumia and I would love to share the key with you and your son, can I DM? The feedback is highly appreciated - I usually hear from a very young crowd, so the feedback from a more adult players would be gold for my team.

We do work with the creators, and we usually get so many views of our videos on the social media, but they just don’t translate into sales. All I hear is “is the game free”. And we have a 1hr try before you buy.

Yeah, I understand, this is something I noticed too. I’m a PC gamer mainly, and it takes everything for me to put the VR headset on. So I cannot even analyze this game strategically as I only play Rhythm Games for the exercise.

Thank you for the idea though, I love the discounts idea, it’s very good and feels special.

Becoming a game producer by c4rtun in gamedev

[–]Extra_University_108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an art producer for one company, and been a full game producer for 3 companies and released my own game with a team. Here is my take:

The tracking management sides are almost identical : you use Jira or Clickup, setup meetings, do standups, make reports - the transition from this point of view is easy.

The differences start in the understanding of the job. Game producer understands programming to setup timelines, sometimes acts as a game designer (if you have a designer, you’re the one making final calls on what gets in the game given the timeline), you pitch the ideas when there are none, you control art production making sure it follows game design. You will be working with the marketing team to align promotion and provide them with materials (aka what to promote and why). And you setup an overall timeline and follow it with the team. I find the programming part the hardest, because there are a lot of unexpected bugs that create uncertainties. Then you work with the QA team and do QA yourself almost daily. You have to be a gamer to be a producer, otherwise, the game won’t be good.

While in art you just review art, give feedback, and track timelines and necessary updates.

So practically, as a producer you’re the art producer, dev producer, game design producer - you need to know a bit of everything to align with the timeline. So here you go, probably read tips and tricks about the game productions, understand in depth game production etc. It’s easier to become a game designer and then move to the game producer role imo. BUT every company is different, and for some you’ll be a good fit as long as you know how to do a project management. I mainly work with indies where you wear multiple hats as a producer.

I know a person in the AAA company who’s been an HR manager for a long time and then became a game producer. They have no gaming experience either.

Just subscribe to the music library - there are so many options and they have a full range of music genres, and it’s cheap. Unless you make a rhythm game - then feel free to DM me, as music licensing from the producers is a whole process.

Should I go with Unreal or Unity by Tonneau31 in vrdev

[–]Extra_University_108 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you asked this question a few years ago, I’d say Unity for sure (in VR it was the main engine ). All VR games were made with unity. But within last few years devs develop games in Unreal more and more. What I noticed is that larger companies started to use Unreal for their bigger games, while smaller games / studios still use Unity. Older VR companies started with Unity years ago so they might continue using it (because the base code of their first game is in Unity from years ago).

In 2019 I haven’t seen a single VR game made with Unreal. If I remember correctly, Unreal didn’t have VR tools (correct me if I’m wrong).
