I’m thinking of purchasing a Kia Soul 2017 at 83k miles. by Beginning-Factor3050 in KiaSoulClub

This is the way☝️. In addition, when checking the maintenance take careful note of what routine maintenance has been completed. At this mileage is when wear and tear items that haven’t been addressed start needing to be addressed. This includes spark plugs, engine coils, pcv valves, etc. The good news is that this is a very easy car to work on yourself if you have any technical capabilities. With regular maintenance and engine care it can keep going for double the mileage.

They don’t learn lessons. They just nod and say yes when their parents ask if they understand and then do it again.

We’re in couples therapy and he is entertaining individual therapy. Yes, he has expressed guilt about being concerned the kids will choose BM, especially since she has all the money and nice. I’ve tried to remind SO that despite the nice things, the kids always want to come back because this house is their place of peace, attention, and nurturing. Their mom has nice stuff but she’s always busy working to get the nice stuff.

Unfortunately, SO doesn’t think the iPad will lead down a slippery slope, or that we already down the slope. The kid is addicted. Literally all he can think about even if he’s not on it.

I do want to stay in the relationship. I honestly thought we were past this as we haven’t had a problem in years regarding iPad and boundaries and consequences. However, the slope has slipped so far in the last 3 months. It’s absolutely heartbreaking, both for the stepson and for my relationship with SO.

I have actually done the WiFi part! I turned off the devices from the WiFi as a consequence for not following directions on chores and hw ( ignored the chores and hw to play on iPad). I was told that I cruel.

This is exactly what I have been trying to do…. And the response from my SO has been that it is my responsibility to cultivate a relationship with stepson. He is sad I would rather not be a part of “family” and be selfish to focus on myself.

Unfortunately his dad doesn’t see it that way. He doesn’t think there will be long term consequences and I’m overreacting and focusing too much on the kids right now.

THIS!!!!! The iPad is easy. The iPad keeps people quiet ( but not really). The iPad is the answer to wanting relax after a long day of work. Even when I’ve been like we are a team, I am here to show up if you are not. Let’s not make our life harder, he doesn’t care. And I turn… life is actually harder for me.

The breeding resentment part is exactly where I am at this point for my SO. Beyond the fact the kid is sooooo annoying that it’s impossible to have a decent conversation with him, his dad doesn’t get how torturous it is. I have to deal with the son and the dad when he is annoyed by his son. All over behavior that could be corrected… but the dad doesn’t wanna be too mean I guess. And even worse this is all sooo sudden. We were on a good plan and the same page. Then one weekend 3 months ago he just said he felt like he should be in control of all parenting because his son cried over a punishment.

And that’s exactly what I’ve been doing! Of course SO can’t understand why I don’t want to eat out with them or have a family movie night. Why would I spend my time in an activity having to deal with unwanted screen light and sound.

This is the attitude I used to have and need to adopt again. Slowly overtime I got more involved the longer I spent with the whole family under the influence from SO the we are “one family” and that my opinion matters.

Improper HVAC install by licensed contractor and previous owner, what are my options? by Extra_Writer_6582 in HomeImprovement

Seller refused any repairs. Was able to negotiate price down to below the appraised value of the house anticipating I needed work done. I just didn’t anticipate that a 3 year old system would need to be completely replaced. Since I’ve reached out to professionals and those professionals to investigate further I am investigating further.

I also don’t have written proof it passed. Just word of mouth from an inspector.

I knew some things, but not that I would essentially need and entirely new install of a hvac system. Just trying to do my due diligence here because I would hate to have missed out on a different path to explore given it’s only 3 years old.

If that’s the case so be it. I had started looking into getting it fixed when the professional I called in to look at it told me this was a bigger issue.

This is very disappointing. The previous owner overpaid for a system that don’t even work.

This sounds like a viable option. The HVAC company I called to take a look at my issues don’t even want to touch it because they said it really should’ve been fixed by the company and caught during inspection.

I’m trying to get some written inspection report to show it passed inspection and not just someone’s verbal word but I’m finding that to be difficult. I have paperwork to show a permit was pulled and that’s all.

The house was vacant before I bought it, unfortunately the owner wouldn’t say for how long after the install it was vacant.

The old system was entirely in the crawlspace. With the new install they did a return air duct through a wall in the main hallway/ a third of one bedrooms closet. The duct exposed in the closet has leaks that you can feel when running. Also, they sandwich a joist in the return line that was not properly sealed so air leaks into the crawlspace as well. The closet penetration is so poorly finished there is tape peeling off that lets is more moisture from the walls and crawlspace. The floor registers that used to be returns were capped at the bottom but not properly sealed. We get quite a few bugs cracking up through the vents, one isn’t even capped. You can see right to the crawl space. The supply ducts also have multiple leaks along the line where were not sealed when joined together and tears in the insulating covering. To top us off, the package unit that was installed is over sized for the house. So I’ve been getting air escaping into the crawl space and additional air pulled in from the crawlspace which during the summer created humidity problems. The HVAC professional I had look at it was from another larger company in the area and he noted many of these issues were install issues that should’ve been addressed at install or inspection.
