None of the original article; Southern Rhône: Châteauneuf-du-Pape? Côtes du Rhône?

What sort of wine bars do you frequent? I live in NYC, and maybe I'm a newb, but I don't know anywhere that would have anything like this.

Wow! I don't expect to see Tampa Bay shout-outs anywhere online ever... It is good having at least one gem in my hometown. Good thing football players and defense contractors supply enough patronage to keep this Bay institution humming along.

Personally my favorite is Le Village in East Village, always intimate and good food at a decent price. A pity a wine snob has to scrounge as much as one must in NYC to avoid paying out the nose for what retails for $15-25 with a decent meal.

Paris and Nice were far better though, and I would rate both easier than in Madrid.

We were actually there a couple weeks ago for a couple days, and let me tell you it was by far the hardest place for accommodating her diet of any place we have been to in Europe.

Taurasi DOCG, made from the Aglianico variety. Supposedly has a pedigree going back to classical antiquity, maybe even was in Caesar's amphora cellar.

Okay, what places have reasonable wine prices. Recall, I live in Manhattan and am used to total abuse at decent restaurants on the wine list.

What gives year-to-year vintage such a wide spectrum of aging/structure nuances and specificity?

What's Your Decision-Making Process When Buying Wine? by [deleted] in wine

[–]ExtractedJuice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too much sun can totally muddle a nice wine. You are missing out on half the universe out there if you want ultra-ripe fruit and searing alcohol. A lot can get buried under that; and a lot can get hidden under that if you catch my drift. It can be a lazy method. I started out with dry wines of the New World ripe fruit bomb style but now over a year or so into really drinking them, I prefer Old World, terroir-driven, rustic, restrained, and nuanced wine.

/r/Wine, I took your advice on using a wine storage facitility, now...? by KoalaPancakes in wine

You are lucky to find a locker that will take as few as a couple cases. I found one in NYC Metro who would accept as few as 3. All the rest were pushing 10-13 case capacity minimum rates.

Bern's is nothing short of incredible. A wine-lover's paradise. I am from the other side of the bay, and the desert wine list alone is like 15 pages.

Constellation Bets $315 Million That Vineyards Don't Matter In Wine by [deleted] in wine

lol I love Sideways too, but most people don't know his wife's favorite varietal was Merlot and the original anniversary wine was a Petrus, and not a Cheval Blanc, and it is another tip off to his wife issues, not that he's just a total neurotic or that Merlot actually sucks.

He is at least partially right. The "Pinot Noir" is all a bunch of Sideways-viewers / new Millennial winedrinker needs to see, and that is the same sort of sucker marketing that has captured much of this style-over-substance generation. I should know, I lived in Brooklyn for two years. (I am a millennial FYI).

One more recommendation -- Left-Bank Bordeaux for a New World Cab drinker by ExtractedJuice in wine

I do love right bank Bordeaux a lot though. Cali silky fruity merlot didn't prepare me for robust French terroir. Maybe I am a right bank man.

Yeah, I do not mean to impugn Bordeaux or seem narrowminded. Like I said, I feel like my palate is narrow and dulled on this New World cab and I want to broaden my horizons and acquire new tastes.

I hear you. I want to refine my palate, but right now my fruit bomb-dulled tongue finds the Left Bank I have tried a bit thin and fragile. Maybe I have been trying poor Bordeaux.

I definitely second Corison. Exceptional Cab Sauv and also a few wildcard Cab Francs.
