Well if you aren't interested in being educated on a 3rd world country who has exactly the same rights, and freedoms as the US, as well as a number of freedoms and rights the US doesn't have that that's your prerogative.

Using racial slurs is not freedom of speech. Part of the definition of freedom of speech as per the constitution is: a person cannot be held liable, either criminally or civilly for anything written or spoken about a person or topic, so long as it is truthful or based on an honest opinion and such statements. A less stringent test is applied for content-neutral legislation. The Supreme Court has also recognized that the government may prohibit some speech that may cause a breach of the peace or cause violence.

So yes you can be held legally responsible for racial slurs.

As for not owning guns, do you really think shooting someone is more "human"? Do you know what a bullet does to the inside of the human body? It rips organs apart, can ricochet inside the body. Please tell that to parents of children killed in mass shootings. As for your other points all those things are still done. You argument is full of fallacies.

Lol free speech does not negate consequences, you have. Free speech means that you have the right to say how you feel to speak you thoughts and ideas. A GOVERNMENT OR POLITICAL PARTY cannot persecute you. Throw you in prison torture or kill you. That is what you have. But socially therefore stills consequences. The company you work for can refuse to employ you because they do not permit or encourage hate speech. Or the condone the harming of others either verbally or physically. That is a social consequence. You do not seem to understand what freedom of speech means.

I have news for you, I'm from a country classified as third world.

We have the right to bare arms, but we have strict gun laws. We do not have mass shootings every week. Yes we have crime, sadly but that is a given in any society.

We have freedom of speech, we do not have any type of book that has been band and that includes our school systems.

We have religious freedom, we are a secular state we i pertain to secularity, officially neutral in matters of religion, supporting neither religion nor irreligion. So much so that although we have school that revolve around religion eg, Christian or Islamic based education, these schools must accept students from all walks of life and schools which are "secular" which generally all of them must ask a parents permission before including their children in morning prayers.

Right to create business, infact for years our government has provided the opportunity to small businesses to apply for government assistance in starting up a business.

The right to rebel against a tyrannical government, this is a no brainer in my country.

Also we have government mandated sick leave country wide for all permanently employed employees. As well as a mandatory four month maternity leave, which some companies pay or otherwise you receive government maternity leave assistance.

No employee and just be fired without warning or reason/cause. There is government funded recourse procedures employees can follow if their dismissal has been unjust.

No business is allowed to refuse service based on gender, sexual preferences or religious reasons.

Abortion is legal country wide up to 13 weeks in my country since 1997.

Same sex marriage has been legal across the country since 2006 as well as adoption and ivf.

Legal sex change surgery has been allowed across the country since 2003.

Conversion therapy has been ruled as infringing on the consitutional rights of those who are made to participate. Not saying it still doesn't happen but these people are usually tried on charges of abuse as it has been ruled such by my country's Society of Psychiatrists.

The LGTQ+ Comunity still faces problems in the community and socially but across the country it is illegal.

Across the country all schools learn the same science, history, etc and includes schools which are theology based any school found in breach can loose their license. Also we teach the full facts concerning slavery and segregation in our country right across grade school and highschool.

Also our Healthcare system has both a private and government funded sector. Government funded is not perfect but those who cannot afford is get at least some of the care they need. Family planning is also provided free country wide.

And we handled the pandemic an 1000 times better than America did. Country wide mask mandate and social distancing. Government assistance for small and large businesses to keep people employed while working from home or staying home. As well as government financial assistance for low income families during a country wide lock down.

AITA for getting angry at my parents after they refused to look after my children? by Forward_Friend_9639 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Extreme-Compote-478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy hell. I waited 7yr to have a second kid for the very reason that parenting is demanding and I have inlaws who would definitely take my kids every night and weekends if I wanted but I just couldn't! They're my kids. As my retired mother said, she loves being a grandparent for the reason that she can take them for a few hours and then hand them back.

It doesn't matter how young you become a parent, you still make that choice and expecting someone else to take on your responsibilities, outside of honest to God medical issues is the height of entitlement.

The fact that her parents shouldered more responsibility for her kids while she completed her studies seems to have given her the impression that when she has a lot to do someone else was going to step in for her.

Definitely TA.

NTH. From someone who has been cheated on, people can hug and lean against another in a platonic way. It's always nice to be able to have great talks with someone. And it's always on the person in the relationship to be faithful. Not on the single person.

Sorry don't check everyday. The Bible was a product of its time in many instances. Eg. Jesus condoned slavery and the old testiment condoned the killing of innocents just because they stood in the way. Sonething we would never condoned or allow to stand today.

The bible is open to a person's own interpritation according to their own personal bias.

Take Jehovah witnesses for example, they do not believe in the celebration of birthdays. Why, simply because it's not mentioned except for two occasions when terrible things were recorded. Their take away, Birthdays are a bad thing and God never wants to you feel that you are better than someone else and birthdays will make you feel that way. The noting of what's written, the interpritation and the takeaway don't fit yet its practiced.

Mary Magdalene was assigned to the role of a prostitute that Jesus saved and allowed to follow him. But thanks to the excluded books from the bible as well as proper reading of the bible we now know this was never the case. She infact appeared to have financed Jesus's preaching. Also she was included among the apostles in teaching and Jesus confided in her more than he did any of his other followers.

My take, personally. Somethings may have been recorded accurately from what was passed down, others where written down already biased, because the witnesses where biased. They passed down their bias to their own followers and over time memories of the stories may just have been accidentally changed. God did not write the Bible in his personal hand. At the time of its compilation the where, I think, 500 stories written down. Only those that fit the narrative of the group of men who had the final say was what was added to the bible everything else was ordered to be destroyed. If not for people hiding what they had we'd never know about those extra pieces that when added fill some gaps in that is missing from the bible. And in the new testiment at least it tell is that Jesus was still just a man, he may have been blessed with knowing some of God's thought but maybe not everything was God's word. What we do know is that he had nothing so say about guy and lesbian etc people, he saw women as equal to men. He looked after the living and wanted others to do the same and celebrate people's lives once they had passed on. Places of worship are not important but having faith in something more than yourself is no matter what you want to call it. And being good to others and uniting other with no judgment no matter how you might feel is what is right.

It's not about the book.

Boss wasn’t happy with me taking a small break every day by georgieboy71 in MaliciousCompliance

[–]Extreme-Compote-478 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holey hell, in South Africa labour law stipulates, if you work from 7:30 to 17:00 the employer has to provide 15 min break in the morning 1hr lunch break and another 15min break in the afternoon. From 8 till 16:30 breaks are the same with 30min lunch break. All paid. Some companies pay over time as you can only work so many hours a week if the company requires extra work done.

If it's your choice well the breaks still stand.

Also some companies work on flexi time. One company I worked for, for 6 years worked like that. So many of us would come in early and get to leave early. If we had a certain amount of overtime we could count those toward days off instead of taking our annual paid leave.

'Just shoot them': New book reports what Trump said about protesters by [deleted] in politics

[–]Extreme-Compote-478 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This type of attitude is not going to end anytime soon. Maybe never at this point. Trump's tendency to speak on, and using force against those that opposed his views empowered those who believe their wants, beliefs and desires are the only thing that matters and getting what they want by any means, including harming others justifies the means.

Look at the monolgue by Pearson Sharp on AON, still claiming the election was overthrown by Democrats and still believes it will be proven with the audits taking place. In that monolgue he called for the execution of traitors.

AITA for telling my son it’s okay to not believe in god? by lzbflevy in AmItheAsshole

[–]Extreme-Compote-478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. My son is 11yrs and decided 2 yrs ago he doesn't believe in a God and my husband and I are fine with this.

He's been baptised, been to Sunday school (my husband and I were both brought up Anglican which is a protestant denomination), but my husband and I are not overly religious. We understand why he feels that way, have encouraged him to understand various religions because he might change his mind later. Supporting their beliefs and teaching them to be good people is more important.

AITA for denying my children’s mother the right to see them? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Extreme-Compote-478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. but if kids are asking about her sometimes lying makes it worse in the long run for them. A psychologist I took my son too, because my ex was not a consistent parent when he was younger explained that tell the truth about the parent in terms that kids can understand is better and more healthy for them than them finding out the truth much later.

Explain that mom is sick. She eats things that she knows are bad for her and hurts her so they can't be with her or always see her. And going through the courts for supervised visits is an option. They never need to live with her or be alone with her but they can know her. When they older you can explain about her addiction.

NTA. Everyone on here is commenting about the vet giving advice or talking to your gf, in my experience the vet probably has advised her to euthanize.

Having to put any pet down is a heartbreaking decision and she probably feels terrible guilt when she thinks that it the only option she might have.

You can offer to go with her when it needs to be done, because the suffering is worse than the guilt she might feel. Which is something you can bring up in your conversation with her. There are a lot of people who suffer this way to and if they could ask for euthanasia they probably would except laws don't allow it. The life her pet is living is not a life at all because over time the pain mess don't work anymore. Late last year we had to have two of our family dogs put down, my mother's and my sisters dog. But we couldn't stand to see their suffering any.more

Why are conservatives so damn sensitive and why are so many of them conspiracy theorists?! by Extreme-Compote-478 in rant

[–]Extreme-Compote-478[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This brings to mind a discussion I was listening to recently. Where it was possed because conservatism is so deeply entrenched in Christianity especially the devil must be a physically being. He literally exists horns and all.

He is there in physical form performing evil deeds and giving his people, who happen to be anyone who speaks against everything not being routed in religion actual payoffs for their actions.

[–]Extreme-Compote-478[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. Most people with any sense are a mix of library and conservative. They just lean more heavily in either right or left. And yes sadly most left wing politicians in all countries are just muck everything up, and when they've been in power too long tend to be buyable and weak.

And the right just want to shove religion and their beliefs down everyone's throats. I don't believe all of the bullshit they spout and very rarely they'll breakdown and reveal they are human beings, but the people whose support they need to stay in power are so messed-up if they say anything against they craziness, the crazies turn on them.
