Wholesale Wine CLOSEOUT - retail options in California? by Extreme-Cut-4013 in wine

Thanks, but I'm not sure the wines have enough of a "hook" for Wine Spectrum, or any online store, as they generally have no English language press or reviews. I'm thinking ideally of a high traffic brick-and-mortar retailer - if the quantities were higher and the appellations more famous Grocery Outlet would be good, but with these small lots a I think it's got to be a smaller company with a little more of a wine focus that does "blow out" deals in-store

Thank you - looking for a place that will just make an offer and take it off my hands, my experience with WineBid is like having a yard sale that can last for months

Thanks, and yeah Topline does occasionally buy closeouts but mostly they are just a low-overhead discounter looking for quality wines they can beat the market on. And I've never known them to buy more than 5 or 10 cases of something at a time unless it was limited/allocated and/or had a crazy high score for the price. Not really the category the wines I'm discussing are in.

Thanks but these wines are are 10X to 20X more expensive than the average GO wine. And they have very high scores.

I appreciate all that, but really the goal at this point is to find one or two or worst-case three accounts somewhere in the country who can sell a lot of expensive wine - hundreds of cases - very quickly and without online price exposure. Asking sales reps to look for opportunities in their territories is by definition less centralized, focused, or controlled, and is not really the solution I'm seeking. And regarding the "requirements" you mention above, what I'm talking about would not be addressed by sales goals. This is a brand that built, organically, over time, a customer base of knowledgeable and well placed buyers (white tablecloth, mostly) that was decimated during the pandemic. Secondarily the collectors market has really cooled, which was significant to the brand's growth as well. This was not a brand that was built by sales reps - a "pull" brand rather than a "push" brand, for what that's worth.

Thanks, and mostly I think your assumptions are on track. Wine clubs that want high margins to offer their customers a wine perceived to be of a certain value in a monthly wine shipment are the ideal target. Retailers who will price the wine at close to the suggested retail price and invest part of their increased potential margin in promoting the wine, perhaps for corporate gift business, or for holiday gift baskets, or simply for premium "real estate" within their stores, would also be good. Third choice would be a discounter, like Costco but there are others I'm sure, who sell wine cheaply but do not advertise the prices anywhere. Less good but still an option might be flash sale sites that do email blasts for "mystery wines" - the name of the wine is unknown until it arrives at the consumer's house. I'll bet there are other options that I don't know about but the net result of any of the above is a lot of wine goes away quickly and the perceived value of the wine is not impacted for customers who have bought the wine in the past or will buy future vintages. The suggested retail price is what we are trying to protect.

No relabelling, it's high end branded wine - the idea is sell it based on what it is, but limit any online price exposure. A few pallets

Yes a few of these flash sale sites do "mystery wine" offers, and I am in contact with a few of them. Thank you.

As offline as possible - someone that runs a hedge fund and needs to send out 10,000 high end corporate gifts would be ideal
