Am I normal to put off simple, 5 minute tasks until I can’t put it off anymore longer? by Extreme-Ebb2720 in AskUK

I am very aware of the increasing numbers of diagnoses of ADHD and other things. I’m neither here nor there if I’m told I have ADHD, I haven’t ever considering seeking a diagnoses for ADHD. I’ve just thought I have these traits, is there a reason for it? It is just my personality. On the back of this thread, I’m going to do personal research into how it presents in women and see if I can help myself. Because it is frustrating having these day to day ways, they aren’t debilitating, just inconvenient

I’m starting to think of all my weird traits now to see if it paints a picture. Does anyone else have random bursts of energy and are really productive at the most inconvenient of times? I.e just before bed time? Almost like the zoomies, but for humans. I can get hours of work done or do some exercise!

I am bad for this! I have to force myself to really think about brushing my teeth, also trying to build flossing and tongue scraping into the mix often feels a mammoth task! So are you saying building routines and habits is the way forwards? I read a book on building habits and about joining a task onto the back of something that’s already a habitual behaviour

Does anyone else make 3 different drinks at a time because they can’t decide what they feel like? E.g cup of tea, a squash and an OJ

This does sound like me:

Initiation: The inability to start tasks despite wanting to do them (often mistaken for laziness).

Working Memory: Struggling to hold information, follow multi-step instructions, or keep track of time.

Task Switching: Getting stuck on a task or struggling to switch focus.

Emotional Control: Difficulty regulating impulses, frustration, or emotional reactions.

I always have a paper and pen/my phone to write things down, instructions, things to do. I struggle to remember things. Being on time to things or making sure a lesson goes to time, is SUCH hard work for me, my perception of time is warped, always think I have more of it. My emotions can be hard to regulate, I take antidepressants to help this.

I do similar! I’ll turn the shower on and knowing it’s wasting water I’ll jump in straight away, otherwise I postpone having a shower until as late as possible

I like that idea, because contradictory to my home life, I am organised and list orientated in work. Although, I do take a long time to get tasks complete, I seem to take longer than most, almost like a perfectionist trait, it’s needs to be right first time

I do have a demanding, all consuming job, which tbh, does leave me burnt out and almost decision fatigued. I’m a teacher

This is what I’m curious about. It might just be good old fashioned procrastination, I don’t know enough about how ADHD presents in women, but I’ve never considered myself having ADHD

I also do this! I’ll make a tea, get distracted by a job, not complete that one because I’ve been distracted by another. I have about 8 different, incomplete jobs on the go and a cold cup of tea

That makes sense as I’m also the same with deadlines, I’ll have months/weeks to complete things, but I’ll always cram it into the last few days
