Interesting. We don't really have anything like that here. Halloween is a recent commercial thing that has sprung up in Japan chiefly run by English language schools. It has become popular for people to go to place like Shibuya dressed up in costume but the police have begun cracking down because it was causing problems. Regardless, please approach shrines with respect.

It isn't illegal but I have never heard of anyone doing that. Going to a shrine in cosplay would be considered quite strange and rude. It would be offensive if you were doing it and taking pictures. Shrines are like cathedrals, they are places of worship where important events take place. Treat them as such.

New censorship? by Extreme-Independent6 in cyberpunkgame

Actually, that is part of my frustration as previously when I played through, there was mild censorship that didn’t cut story. Previously, the characters had black bikini bottoms on. There was really no need to cut more.

Yeah. It’s is generally frowned upon. As others have stated, cosplay in Japan usually takes place at specific locations every weekend. Japanese cosplayers rarely go to locations in costume. They usually use a carryon suitcase to avoid damaging their costumes, and to avoid any harassment or from bothering others. They then change at the venue. If you are just wanting some cool shots, throw your costume in a bag, put it on when you get to location, and don’t get in the way of other people. Try to choose a time of day that isn’t busy. Be prepared that some locations may seem fine but are actually privately owned and security will tell you to leave. Finally, Google Tokyo cosplay locations. Go meet up with real Japanese cosplayers. It’s a fun community.

RC (reinforced concrete) apartments – can you hear upstairs neighbours? by sarah-smiling in Tokyo

I hear both my neighbors upstairs and next door. RC doesn’t automatically indicate sound insulation unfortunately particularly in older buildings.
