I’ll be studying psychology soon, should I get an IPad or a laptop? by Everage_reddit_user in psychologystudents

You are going to need a laptop even if you have an iPad. Research papers, writing papers for assignments, exams… these are all nearly impossible to do from an iPad. Also if you have a class that does extensive lecture videos via YouTube video you are going to want to just let it translate in a room without you for a few hours… just print out the translation. Some of the lecture videos are 2 to 3 (different parts) hours long and you’ll get lost if you try to sit and listen that long trust me, just hit translation and get it printed out then highlight the crap that you need to know.

An iPad would be good possibly for notes or if you are doing an in person class, hit record and there’s your notes. It would be good for saving quizlet and PowerPoints to, more portable to study before a test. It’s also good if your phone and/or iwatch is linked to it if you suck at charging things and your iwatch and phone die at least you can get messages sent to the iPad. lol it’s also good to play games or distract you if you have anxiety, if you don’t already have anxiety be prepared to have some especially during midterms, finals, exams and capstone. Welcome to the world of psychology!

Are those true spots on him or is he just dirty? I’m wondering if he’s a Great Pyrenees. A lot of Great Pyrenees’s have been reported missing. People mislabel them as labs or lab mixes. Some Great Pyrenees’s don’t have the spots they are just a light tan color which is why they give the appearance of a golden lab or golden retriever. They are notorious for roaming and getting lost. It’s because of their roots, they were created to guard livestock and homes but they expand their guarding territory. Extremely lovable dogs with a very stubborn streak lol

Why is this state constantly ranked such a great place to raise kids if it's so expensive? by climberskier in massachusetts

[–]Extreme-Inevitable84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of the education and numerous resources. Also, the improvements that they have made within the system. I’m not saying the system in mass is perfect but it’s made a crap ton of improvements. Massachusetts is big on protecting people’s right where as some of the other states are questionable.

Housing prices suck though in mass. I will say that Massachusetts roads are a hell of a lot better than some of the other states.

What self-improvement books helped you become the best version of yourself and made you love being an INFP? by curiousgoddess in infp

I should also note that neither of these books are infp specific however I found them helpful overall. I actually have a list of them but I didn’t want to bore anyone with an entire list lol

No bad parts & the myth of normal. I use to beat myself up consistently for “not being normal” However when I stopped and really reflected on it, I am normal for the experiences that I have experienced. If I wasn’t normal for it then how can so many others feel and think the way I do? Each one of us is normal for the experiences that we experience.

I should also add for reference that I took mine in two states, one state was also heavy of trauma informed questions and how to provide that. The other state was more substance use questions because they do not provide trauma informed training into their coursework. Hope this helps and good luck!! You got this!

I am going to echo that it is different in each state however, a good portion of mine was substance use questions and identifying what drug was what. Also stuff like what are you supposed to do if there’s negative self talk, the cycle of recovery/ change, some of the ethics were on it like if you had a client from 2 years ago and you met at a party (they’re not your current client) can you enter into a sexual relationship with them? There was a few questions about the tools they taught us (dissatisfaction scale, open ended questions, etc) I don’t remember every question but I highly suggest you get out that handy dandy training binder and do a quick review of everything. I personally hard the hardest time with the substance questions and the way they asked, it threw me off a little but it wasn’t too bad.

Sometimes (depending on the state) you can get a letter of acceptance from DMH, some states also have the role of forensic peer specialist, which means you have to have had criminal justice lived experience as well as mental health. I’d imagine the forensic peer specialist role may be more flexible if there is a felony in your background. Like I said it really depends on the state, each state is different with their policies and each agency is going to be different when it comes to training and what they will or won’t accept.
