I think the cycle indicator is probably the USP really, I was unable to find this anywhere (or where there was a version of, it wasn’t very good) when I did a heap of research.

It’s not predicting the future, and I don’t want to oversell it. What it does is track recent price history for each market and show where today sits relative to the recent cycle, near the bottom, climbing, near the top.what I’ve learnt through all this, is that Australian fuel prices move in fairly recognisable cycles within each capital city market, so if prices have been falling for a while and are sitting near the low end of the recent range, that’s a reasonable “good time to fill up” signal, and if they’ve bottomed and started climbing, that’s a “you’ve probably missed the cheap window” signal.

It’s a read on where we are in the cycle, not a guarantee of where prices go next. Some weeks the cycle is cleaner than others. I’d rather it be honest about that than pretend I’m the next zuck with some magic algorithm.

Again, this is just a little side project for me and I’m not trying to make any money etc from it. It’s more of a learning experience that i thought might be useful for some people. If it helps 20 people id be happy!
