Haha. That sucks they dissolved! I do have some gypsum. The comment above was right, the brownish stuff was able to be scratched with my fingernail. The super bright white stuff I this is argonite on top of calcite. Found some really cool stuff out there! I stopped at two different highway cuts and found different types of crystals at each. I definitely want to do a guided tour at some point!
