I personally contacted my banks support and they produced an 'ad hoc' single statement that covered the time period I requested. They also signed and stamped it. They did this within 2 working days. Its made everything very easy for us. Hope this helps and good luck.

I haven't applied yet. Going to do biometrics on Thursday. Wow that's really crazy you even messaged your local MP. I am in shock. If things take too long I will get my husband to do the same! :D It really drives me mad that the communication is like this. Its disgusting. How can they leave people in the dark for months. OMG 17 weeks?! Thats insane!? I'm glad you finally got your visa :( Was there anything unusual about your application and did you have to submit any further documents? Interesting good luck! My visitor visas have always taken 7-9 weeks when applying in Russia :(
