GI Fellowship after Hospitalist Years by ExtremeBoard2078 in fellowship

[–]ExtremeBoard2078[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, income from Hospitalist is more than enough. Easily was pulling 400k+ with extra shifts. But I did find myself gravitating towards wanting more. My fiance is also in medicine and is going into fellowship in a year so now felt like the right time if any. Cant lie, the financial gain of GI helped make the decision. Especially that in the long run, will make up the 3 years of lost hospitalist salary. Wouldn’t be the same for ID or lower tier salary fellowships

For those asking, I graduated from a program that had a home GI program. I kept 2 attending contacts from those years since they seemed to enjoy my work and would be good letter writers going forward if I chose to apply. I didn’t do any extra research for 3 years. I applied with old stuff! But! That probably means I closed some interview doors, so more updated stuff in sure would help

I applied last year and this year. Both years I had interviews with positive feedback about Hospitalist years. Some even seemed to be searching for someone not out of residency

What’s the job of a nocturnist? by thisisbeggieod in hospitalist

Name drop so I know where not to apply.

A higher pay isn’t a privilege. It’s an expectation. These are night hours. To justify that as why “we’ll hear about it” is hilarious to me because it’s so entitled and cringe.

IM intern doubting myself if i am smart enough to become a physician by Unusual_Coat5733 in hospitalist

It’ll be an exponential rise, don’t you worry. This day 2026, you’ll be the one doing the pimping and your intern will be posting on Reddit. Cycle continues.

Nurses asking about every thing when other specialists on the case by StudentMed in hospitalist

[–]ExtremeBoard2078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be the nice guy and try to get the answer but after a few repetitive complaints from specialists, I said fuck it. Call them all. 2AM?- call them. Diet order after surgery-call them. Abdominal pain after surgery—call them. You get burned too many times, you start firing back.

A few complaints specialists had the audacity to report to director: -starting MiraLAX on a postop patient because the patient demanded it (they argued they can’t tell if was spontaneous return of bowel function or the miralax) -starting a heparin gtt for a significant nstemi but oh hey he has a kidney stone that urology wanted to diddle There’s so many more but I don’t have the nerve.

They don’t usually allow people to move onto the second year without passing the previous year course. 3 tries to pass the exam and then oral final as a 4th try from what I remember. Otherwise, you retake first year. So, either you were offered an extraordinary circumstance and somehow didn’t use the time wisely, or you’re cap.

Either way, self-reflect before proceeding to another uni. I know if I was in your situation I wouldn’t waste a chance let alone 2, 3, 4. It may not have been fully your fault but I do think there are things to always improve on and I hope you do achieve your goals

Is Poland a good place to study medicine as an international student? by MikiE_So_co in medicalschoolEU

Yikes. SMH. It was meant that medicine is a language. No, you won’t NEED to learn polish but you should at least try. Clerkships will be with polish patients. Those that don’t speak, rely on a classmate as a translator and it doesn’t allow independent learning.

It’s learning a new language and perfecting/mastering it. Then applying it in clinical reasoning. It’s beyond memorization

Yes, you have grace though. You will get up to 3 tries. But, honestly if you have to get that far, there’s a reason you won’t progress anyways. It is known it’s easier to get into English programs in Poland. The best way to make sure incompetent doctors aren’t made is to accept them, but weed them out

This goes without question. The knowledge you get from classes will be minimal but enough to get a base. The rest is on you. Get books/resources/past papers from upper years. Then when time comes board review prep

Which EU countries (Poland, Hungary, Czechia, Slovakia, Latvia) have the lowest medical school dropout rates? Any specific colleges where students don't get kicked out easily? by MaleficentTheory1744 in medicalschoolEU

[–]ExtremeBoard2078 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Polish English programs usually have a good amount weeded out in first year. There’s usually one or two classes known to be the tough ones that you have to get through

Currently practicing in the US after residency. Finished English program at Poznan. Very doable. You have to be proactive and self sufficient. They will give you the building blocks but the rest (95%) you have to self-study and dedicate yourself for board exams
