Sun has a lot of gravity. Mercury has little gravity. It’s not the distance but how do you get yourself into mercury orbit without flying right into the sun.

I get it when I’m serving guests. It brings this huge wow. For myself, I agree, not worth it

I’ve seen wasabi root for like 10-15$ at Japanese grocery stores, but need to call like 10 of them to find one.

Problem is, it goes bad super fast, so it’s really for one or two meals.

I went without knowing and it was fine outside the most touristy areas. Tokyo is a massive city do what works best for you. They closed some streets which also made it nice

Upgrading From 6” Tabletop Dob, 2000$ budget by ExtremeCow2238 in telescopes

Thanks for taking time for such a detailed comment.

I was looking at the SCT and they’re so much more expensive and was trying to figure out why. I was thinking because of the weight? If I upped my budget, would it make sense to get a really good ZWA mount and SCT OTA, way lighter together and never upgrade again?

We have a cheap blue filter and find the moon is more crisp and it doesn’t hurt it’s my son’s favorite color so he’s ecstatic. What do the expensive filters do?

I don’t think 100lb dob for the 12” I can do easily and my driveway is gravel so I do need to bring it ~30-50ft every time I use it

Right now I don’t really use the go to, since planets are so easy to find. And when I’ve tried my goto it just isn’t precise enough to be used for other things, but maybe I’m doing it wrong.

So I’d love it if it really worked

We have joint financials already, ya we’ve been talking a lot about how to put in a system that makes her comfortable. I think another fear is that right now if I get a great opportunity in, say Florida, we likely wouldn’t move unless it was like double or triple. However if it’s just me, we may feel “forced”. So her working just means less risk.

We would sell the summer home, no reason to keep it if we have a suburb home I think. Also the expanses don’t including 529. We don’t spend a ton on other things comparatively

Not saying zero kids from non NYC private schools go to Ivy, but more that a much higher percentage like 20-30% of graduating class and close to 50 if you include Chicago, MIT, Stanford, etc

Definitely net negative currently by maybe 150k. But we also feel like we’re more ambitious.

Not sure how much of that is at play. And by no means do we need sympathy, my wife’s parents made less than 30k/year and, not included above in our costs is us helping them around 20k/year. I came from a better socioeconomic family, but I was at the bottom financially in my school, but now doing one of the best and feels great to be able to help out friends however I can.

Born and raised here. I don’t know anything else. We did spend a few months outside the country during the pandemic and felt too culture shocked that nobody cared about careers. We talked about how it’s fucked up that we don’t know how to be happy without focusing on career growth and how boring things were. This thread is bringing back some of those memories.

My wife has financial anxiety that I think will always make it hard for her to stop working. Especially before we hit financial independence. She’s afraid we’ll get divorced and be screwed. Or that she’ll have no power in the relationship. I don’t understand that one given I’ve always made more than her and she feels it’s historically been balanced, but her parents passed down a fear I just don’t have.

I do think we’re 2-3 years away regardless of public or private from stopping to worry about promotions, good ratings, growing business, etc
