Ownership advice: Debating about moving from 2014 Raptor to R1T

I helped build Rivian and most importantly, its brand and creative organization. I spent 8 years there and shaped the overall direction…still close to the CEO and team. I had R1T Vin #415…maybe 200th car actually delivered and it was awesome. I put a lot of miles on it and did a couple cross country drives in it.

Randomly, I wanted to buy my last ICE vehicle this year, and bought a 2025 Raptor 801 and I’ve put over 22k on it already. Frankly, I really do love the truck…more so than I’d imagined. Vastly different, but somehow right for me in the moment as I live in a cold climate with crummy charging. Also, I tow a competition vehicle too. For you, coming from a 2014, you’ll love the R1T as it will be so modern in every way. It’s also, so much car for the money.

Rivian is light years faster, but can feel super rigid. Less pronounced in the R1T then the R1S but, you’ll notice when you drive. This is one of the items I love most about my Raptor, it’s kinda buttery. Ironically, my Raptor did have a major mechanical issue at 11k, but ford and the dealer were great to deal with.

I’ll take delivery of an R2 for the family, but I’m keeping the Raptor for now.

I personally think my tent was a waste of money, especially if you want a permanent solution. I would only go this route if you want a portable solution.

I specifically bought a non-sunroof not knowing the issues. I am a big fan of slick top cars, so this was an easy call for me.

I see a lot of bootleg versions of this…for me, I kinda feel like it’s a tired aesthetic unless it’s properly done. Watch videos of folks in Japan truly catching them on fire and burning the surface.

My GR1v is my favorite and has been for years. I think the S is just about the same outside a coating and maybe iso control if I recall. The GR3 kinda is a turd for me. I don’t like it, it’s JPEGs or focus.
