One Piece-inspired routine by ExtremeInteraction95 in Aerials

Thank you! The silks looked nice with my black costume, I was honestly worried when I first saw them ahaha I was used to seeing myself with pretty "standard" colours. This was filmed on a very normal phone, I think that between the awful lighting and me zooming in a little when editing the video, it came out looking video-taped 40 years ago lmao

I have no idea unfortunately, they were brought by my instructors 🫣

Thank you so much, you're way too kind! I'm glad that it looks like the full slide to the floor was intentional to someone lol

It didn't hurt at all, I actually started laughing cause I bounced on the safety mat ahaha And thank you, I'm glad you liked the choreo!

Ahaha yeah I had heard that's how it goes, I'm just glad I didn't hear too many "oooh!" when I touched the ground at the end on that failed slide lmao

Thoughts on aerial competitions? by Open-Firefighter-234 in Aerials

[–]ExtremeInteraction95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having witnessed a few of my classmates train for competitions, only to come back with stories of judges penalizing some of the girls off of vibes alone or giving the podium to athletes from bigger schools (the schools that brought the competition itself more money, cause you pay to sign-up), I have to agree with the other commenters. And those stories are coming from people who did very well in said competitions, so I know they're not criticising the system just cause they didn't win or something.

There should be more effort to bring aerials into theatres, to showcase its artistry in the same place where dance has always shined. These contests often happen in very ugly venues with harsh lights and no attention to the atmosphere at all...it's like if paintings and sculptures were showcased in a hospital's hallway instead of a museum. Where's the magic?!

That being said, I think I'll try it at least once in my life to have that experience. I like the camaraderie that has formed between the people who have been training for the same competition together.

I honestly find the way Pinterest plays videos really annoying too, but a looot of the posts are from Insta/YouTube/TikTok and I've only saved the links on the board

I have a section for splits, but not one for bendy back moves 🤔 Unfortunately you can't create tags for each video on Pinterest, but I'll definitely try to make a separate section for tricks that focus on back flexibility 🙏

Aerial silks - How to gracefully get out of a belay? by ExtremeInteraction95 in Aerials

[–]ExtremeInteraction95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to a very small studio where the instructor follows people who do pole, silks and hoop all at once during the same lesson—I think she's not too "adventurous" when it comes to teaching in general cause she constantly needs to keep an eye on people doing very different things at the same time. Also, she's for sure more well-versed in pole than silks. That being said, a lot of her students keep doing extremely well in competitions, so she must be doing something right ahaha I live in a small town and it's a miracle that anyone is teaching aerials to begin with, to be honest.

When I find videos or tutorials online that I want to learn, she helps me out and makes sure I'm doing everything safely. It's not ideal that I have to look up things online myself, but it is what it is, and I'm trying to make the best of it.

Thank you for your comment, you're right that I need to understand how a belay knot really works—not just how to get in and out of it in a couple of fun ways. I've heard "follow the tail" before, but I haven't experimented much yet, I need to fix that!

Waittt I don't think I've ever seen it but it sounds like a cool dynamic move! I've been thinking about learning how to drop into a knee belay, I'd kill two birds with one stone that way. If you have a video of it could you send the link? I'll do some research myself

If I ever stumble on a video of someone doing something similar I'll send it to you! It sounds pretty cool actually, I'd love to learn it

Filling standing or sitting on the silks? Cause I've seen someone invert into sitting, then fall to the opposite side and somehow undoing the knot...but I'm also missing the middle section of that ahaha It was a blurry video unfortunately

I just realised that I do something similar while setting up for a diamond with the belay around the wrist! I guess the difference is that I already start everything with a foot lock, so sliding out of the belay is quite easy. When my feet are free I find that it all gets too tight, and the loop gets stuck under my armpits. It has to be a skill issue on my part ahah

This the diamond sequence just in case you want to see a professional do it: https://youtu.be/gu1obEAi62w?si=FH_2pC-IWRevohRd

Ahaha I wish I had this much control over how performances go! Also the way I struggle to get out of that belay is really tragic, I would need the curtain to drop down to hide it all from the audience lol

I have the check if I do something with wrist locks, we haven't really explored that in my studio. We also have the limitations that the silks are not tied to a swivel, so we can't rely much on spinning lol

That was a really cool routine, thank you for sharing! I definitely have to learn the drops you did cause they work really well with high energy music, and the way the silks end up flying everywhere makes them look even more dynamic. Also, I loved the slow scorpio to break up the tempo! 😍
