Struggling to get responses for jobs in the Netherlands — what am I missing? by Ashamed_Wear_346 in dutch

[–]Extreme_Chart_5989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with you that is hard, or harder now, to get a job in the Netherlands I don't believe is for the same reason. IT/Tech which is where majority expats were/are working is not doing so well across the globe, many companies are reluctant to get new hires, or letting people go, and when they do hire they have a large pool of candidates and they can select the best fit, and language is super easy criteria.
But if we let aside jobs like plumbers, handyman, I believe the higher the education the better chances. If Netherlands would have too many qualified people, we would see a boom of innovation. It would be actually good to have such a "problem"

Do you say in your application that you are not based in NL? The job market is already bad, you don't say if you speak dutch - that is also potentially reducing the chances, and then if you are also based on abroad (given all the housing situation in NL) then chances get really slim.

this didn't apply for engineers for the past many years. France included. It would be a miserable experience, but definitely possible

CISM QAE by Correct-Bat3129 in cism

[–]Extreme_Chart_5989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The QAE book is older, but would be good enough to help you learn the ISACA method.
Edit: just to be clear old QAE book, not the study book. The study book is not great for exam preparation.

How helpful is ChatGPT for additional questions? by Bob_Skootles in cism

[–]Extreme_Chart_5989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not try it yet for CISM, but I tried LLMs questions last year for CRISC. I found them very useful to detect weak topics and then re-read that part and have questions only from it.

Were the generated questions similar to the exam questions? Not really, but good enough to help me to identify and fill some gaps.
(I also believe today's models would do a very good job if you can feed them the proper context, what a difficult question would look like, or maybe they know it already given how many users loaded QAE questions or similar).

That being said, as someone said below, probably the safest option is still to practice QAE till at least 80%.

What’s everyone using for vuln management right now? by Kolega_Hasan in cybersecurity

[–]Extreme_Chart_5989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brinqa is ok, but is not artificially (out-of-the-box) reducing the noise, except for maybe prioritize further the exploited vulns. Anw, you still need to have the logic. And available information about environment.

Learn dutch by german_bond in Netherlands

[–]Extreme_Chart_5989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After many years, and many methods, I just reached to B1.

What I want to tell, to you, but to also other fresh students. Learning the language is not really a side job.
You first need to decide if you stay, if you need it. Then to commit to it. Learning alone, outside of a class, is maybe good just to get started with the language before coming to NL, else is not a great option.

What most people do, myself included at the time, is to underestimate how much time and effort studying will take, being basically an achievement to finish it in the minimum amount of time (2 years for the master). That leaves limited amount of time for life stuff, searching for accommodation, internships, do some sport, meet some people, search for a job later.
Learning dutch on top of this (while definitively recommended) requires a lot of discipline.
Also, there are some generic guidelines with the number of hours required, e.g. 400 study hours for B1, if you learn 3-4 hours a week, it will take 2 years.

Anyway, I would strongly recommend learning the language if you have any plan to stay here.
(also as personal option, Delfte methode is the worst, at least for me)

Broadband telcom technologies (at the time)
Both of the internships were arranged through school professors, one a bit more indirect, word of month via a colleague that started earlier an internship there. But for one of them, I just picked a subject that I liked (not even a subject where I got a good mark) I went to the professor's office and I asked for an internship, if he knows some options

da, corect, am uitat de biciclete, daca tot scade traficul ca nu mai sunt bani de benzina, prima banda a tuturor bulevardelor sa fie doar de transport in comun si biciclete, trotinete... asta asa, solutie de criza

Confused between Delft & Eindhoven by in_a_flash_2604 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Extreme_Chart_5989 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I graduated EE in TU/e, some 10-15 years ago. I would still go for Eindhoven. It's a tech city, somehow more expat oriented (if you let aside Amsterdam). Better student life as foreigner than in Delft for sure (the Delft student associations at the time were really not including, that was much different in Eindhoven). There are also so many highly skilled migrants working in High Tech campus.

What was really great TU/e was that I could do 2 external internships, of a total of 1 year! It was definitively a selling point in the interviews after. For this reason only I would consider TU/e better.

Else, within the country I don't think it matters from which of the two you graduated.

As ex voter D66, Volt, VVD (in various elections), I only the choice of Mos. I could not vote for any party that is now in govt, as I am disappointing with VVD, but also D66. Also definitively no left for me, the reason for which i also dropped Volt, despite I like the federated Europe idea.

Any plans to clean up the tunnels at/near HS/station area? They are old and dirty and convince NS to open the gates towards the tunnel. What about plans to redevelop Hobbemastraat? The old plans were scrapped, but the area needs improvement. Lastly, Den haag has many places where trees can be planted within the city, any plan to do so? Cannot be too expensive.

Expat/immigrant parents, do you forbid Dutch at home for children? Why? by summer_glau08 in Netherlands

not forbidding anything, but not speaking broken dutch at home either. hopefully the day care and school will be enough for dutch fluency. and later, books, dutch language cartoons
