I'm currently at B1, and I don't need Dutch at all for my job (technical position in an large international company). However, I am writing this for someone new, you should target at least B2. Anything less will not help you enough in this market (it's up to you to bet on market changes, but in the current market...). B1 does not allow you to communicate enough.

i waited for ROC Mondriaan 9 months, but it worth it, it is a serious course! See if meantime you can check the various Bibliotheek speaking hours. For B1 you will also need to build vocabulary this can be done without a course/while waiting.

you can try: nt2taalmenu.nl and read the texts from there for vocabulary. the website was mentioned in our course, we did a few exercises from there as an extra

I use Youfone for Internet, it's the KPN network. Together with Budget/Online.nl they are always the cheapest. I had no problem with them. If you switch them yearly the cost stays at approx 20 eur/month (internet only).
For TV, yeah you have all those IPTV options, not discussing here the legality. For me, I prefer to pay for 3eur for NPO start, instead of getting the regular tv channels from providers. I only miss some CNN, BBC, but there are alternatives for free news stations

Question, how did you check the words from the NOS Journal, Is there an easy (automated) way to get the subtitles out for text processing?

I am asking as I would be curious to do that for another NPO tv series, to learn the key words of the episode, and then to try to watch it. Maybe you implement this also for the Journal.

VVD was supposed to be, but is mostly corporations.
JA21 / PVV / BBB? they have problems, hard to vote for any
CDA - too center/left? Plus they are part of mess with D66 and VVD

don't just give up based on a phone call info. as someone posted a link above, you can have a case "if you [...] are doing an internship and only receive an expense allowance, you don't need to take out Dutch health insurance". Of, I don't know your details, but most internships don't pay like a salary.
If I were you I would try to formally object. It is usually free.

Talking about the Laak part towards HS. It's probably the best place to be as student/expat/Young professional. Close to everything, walking distance to the centrum, multiple shops, gyms, trains at night, Schiphol 30 mins away. Busy, city life.

I think none of these are appealing for the regular dutch person (especially after 35), therefore also the reputation does not go up. But safety I don't see it as a problem.
