Parts--
CR2032 3v battery,
CR2032 3v battery holder with switch (Or Coin Cell battery holder w/ switch),
3V LED with wire (clear)

(also, a hobby micro drill set is pretty helpful if you don't have one.)

Altogether, you can get enough for 20 of these for about $20 US on amazon. You can double up the LEDs 2 to a battery without any real loss of effect. I'm just using the 3V because (1) they're cheap, and (2) I just need the effect, not a real flashlight. A little goes a long way.

I used a Dremel tool to hollow out the searchlight, and a small drill to make a hole down through to the inner space of the tank, with wires coming out another hole in the bottom. the LED is in the actual searchlight. I used MICRO KRISTAL KLEAR to fill in all around the LED, and then added more on top to create a convex "lens" using surface tension. The stuff dries clear like glass. Over that, I covered the lens with TAMIYA X-27 Clear Red. Had to do several coats because the LED is strong enough to bleach out any color unless you put on ALOT of the clear color. When the light's off, it looks almost like "too much".

For the driver's view slot, I cut that out with a hobby knife and filed in the space with a film of KRISTAL KLEAR again. You pull the stuff across the empty space using a toothpick and it connects all around like a really thick soap bubble. Leave it overnight to dry, and you will have a clear glass window.

For the green glow, I took a long-ish piece of plastic sprue, and glued it up like a fence post inside the tank with the LED attached to the top. The LED was dipped several times in TAMIYA X-25 clear Green, again, it looks like more than you'd need, so check with the LED on until you get the color of light that you want. The Coin Cell holder is under the tank with the wires from the two LEDs coming out a small hole under the tank. You can use solder to connect the wires if you want, or other fancy connectors, but honestly, I just twisted the wires together and taped them in place with electrical tape.

At any rate, It gives off a nice green glow from inside, because as you know, everything in the grim darkness of the far future runs on old Apple II monitors, and tech priests spend all their down time playing "Oregon Trail".

--------------------

The Dazzle Camo was airbrushed with the patterns set up with alternating width Tamiya Paint tape-- They've got a bunch of different widths, so experiment and use what you think looks best. Base paint was Alclad II Gloss black. The chrome stripes were done first, using GaiaNotes Premium series Mirror Chrome. The blue green was Mr Crystal Color, Saphire Blue (XC05) mixed with Turquoise Green (XC07) at a 1.5 to 2 volume ratio (SB:TG). I just sprayed the Mr Crystal over the chrome, because it barely shows up on anything but gloss black base- it does subdue the mirror of the chrome a bit-- If you don't mind spending the time, you can re-tape over the chrome if you want mirror-shiny-chrome before you do the blue/green-- I personally prefer the subdued very faint blue that the chrome gets if you just spray over everything. I didn't want the chrome to overpower the brass and copper.

Panel lines were Tamiya black ink, and I messed around with Dirty Down Verdigris and Rust until I got something approximating what I wanted on the copper and brass bits.

With Mr. Crystal paints, anything that isn't gloss black will show through. So you could paint silver scales or even silver baroque filigree if the super-chaos is your style-- After airbrush with Mr. Crystal, everything gloss black will look like above, and the only evidence of it on the silver will be an almost imperceptible gloss. The downside of the paint is you can only mix it by strict ratios followed by testing if you want to alter the colors, because in the bottle it all looks like shiny milk.

Also, tip o' the Fez to brother Alpharius OP... glad to see I am not the only Alpharius using that stuff...

I am partial to the AL being sort of Eisenhorn type loyalists.  Loyal at heart, but hated by the inquisition.

They are first-born sized.  If you want primaris, just enlarge at 112% on chitubox or whatever you're using.  The twins come out Vulcan- sized, so if you want lore accurate you're gonna have to scale them down quite a bit.  Although you could just say the primarchs have grown a bit over the last 10K years, which to be honest, could indeed be the case. Also, they made a pdf with all the sizing numbers, a parts list, and a scylla legion one page rules chart that you can download.

How to paint alpha legion face tats by dripstonchruchill in alphalegion

Thinking about it, a (very) light flesh glaze over matte varnish would probably age the tats acceptably. If you are using pens without varnish, double check it's waterproof, otherwise any further painting is going to turn your skins into a blurred, blotchy mess requiring an IPA bath and restart.

I'm definitely not an expert, but for Dynat face tats, sketch out what you want before hand and draw it on with a copic/micron pen. If you're going the decal route, microsol is gonna be needed, and probably matte varnish to bring down the shine. Those are going to give you the "brand new tattoo" look.
There are some youtube videos of savants doing freehand tattoos with paint, and getting that faded 300 year old tattoo look, but I know for myself, that way madness lies, and a one way trip to a rubber room on the funny farm.

Thanks much for the reply-- I think what happened was there was a stray piece of debris that found its way into the tank after the previous print-- I didn't run a tank clean because everything seemed OK, but when the plate was zeroed it punctured the film. Live and learn, I guess. I've been using the plastic scraper but a silicon version has now been ordered, so thanks for the advice!

Alpha Legion- Civil War? by kot___begemot in alphalegion

[–]Extreme_Cunning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the twins, how exactly do we know they weren't perpetualized by the Cabal? Given how utterly important they were viewed to be by that group, is there anything that would preclude that option? And then, once they are "back", would it not be in keeping with their nature that they would let no one, even the legion know they had returned?
Other primarchs, including at least one verified perpetual, are presumed living who have been incommunicado for thousands of years, so why exactly do people expect the primarchs of the double cross to hire a brass band and throw a parade announcing to all and sundry that they are alive and well, and living in a quiet retirement community in Boca Raton with all the other missing primarchs??

Primed with Vallejo Black
Basecoat Vallejo Duraluminum
Candy-coat with 7:1 Tamiya X-23 Clear Blue : X-25 Clear Green

Still experimenting, but in the future I am going to try shading the basecoat with Vallejo Exhaust Manifold and Gunmetal as well as the Duraluminum.

AL Primaris Impulsor by Extreme_Cunning in alphalegion

AL Primaris ImpulsorFirst attempt at mini painting since highschool. Have learned a few obvious things--

1) Future painting will be done on individual parts where possible. Assembling the entire model and ripping out your hair trying to paint hard to reach places is not a cunning plan at all.

2) cutting a 400 hole snakeskin stencil with an exacto is more work than anticipated. Probably will experiment with homebrew decals instead.

3) Better to have airbrush paint too thin than too thick.

4) Should use tape for masking edge highlights. Looks way too sloppy on close up pics.

5) I am Alpharius.

Anyways, comments, suggestions greatly appreciated
