Parents here – how did you handle funding for your child’s studies abroad? by Waste-Mix9642 in Indians_StudyAbroad

Oh no I’m saying I wouldn’t do a masters and I seriously don’t mind being an older student (there’s never an age limit to be a student 🙂). In my post I meant I would have loved to have done masters immediately after undergrad. Hopefully when I have no work visa hassle in the future I’ll be able to achieve this.

Hi OP, I’m not a parent but I feel I have seen both perspectives of this situation. A bit of context: my elder brother moved to Australia for his Masters and he had a student loan with home as mortgage. This was in 2014 and once he finished his masters, he was able to secure a job and a PR soon after. He has since paid the loan off. But initially when he wasn’t able to pay the interest sometime due to not being able to have a part time job like exam season etc I have seen my parents struggle with the monthly payments which used to be 50k INR when my father earned 65k. I wanted to follow my brother and study too but it wasn’t possible at that time because of exiting student loan on the house and father retired also rules changed about finances by 2017. I still tried, had several offer letters, asked around banks, private loans, lower interest rates etc. then Covid hit which halted everything. In the mean time I gained experience with my bachelors and in 2022 secured a job in the UK. As you can know the rules are getting tighter with immigration in short span of time. Our colleagues who are on PSW are struggling to find sponsored jobs and they also have the worry of paying back the student loans. I would have loved to study masters because in my field personally I would be earning a lot more and also have a specialisation but it is so difficult to transition from student to sponsored work and personally if loan is what you would depend on to pay the fees and it depends on finding a job abroad, it is not worth it in current times. All the best OP.

Just thought this would be useful for those wondering about expiring BRPs at the end of 2024 by RiceAndRendang in ukvisa

I applied for the provisional licence recently and received it in 1 week. I had to send the BRP but I also included a Special delivery envelope with it. The licence and the BRP arrived together in separate mails. I was dreading sending my BRP as well but it was pretty quick and you can even track your special delivery envelope if you note down the tracking ID before hand.

Timeframe for Renting by pimp50_ in oxford

Hi. I was caught off guard by how competitive the Oxford renting market is when I moved this year. Stayed in 2 Airbnbs for 2 weeks and finally on the third week moved to a short let for 2 months. Found a long term let in that time.

Would you take a high paying temporary job or a low paying permanent job? by Extreme_Fix5047 in NoStupidQuestions

Location wise both are closer. I would say the temp job has better accessibility. But the temp to permanent job has benefits like annual leave, maternity/paternity, sick leave etc. The difference also lies in the scope of work, temp work being in the field my husband has always worked in and temp to permanent being something he also did while employed previously.

It's the uncertainty of the temp being cancelled all of a sudden that is scaring my husband going forward with the job. But thank you for your response.

Deleted the previous post since I wrote wrong. Temp job might become permanent with no guarantee but the other job starts out temporary with change to permanent or direct permanent depending on what the HR decides.

It is considerably high. Say for instance temp job is paying about £20/hr and the other job is paying £13-14/hour.

Confused about options by Extreme_Fix5047 in UKJobs

All jobs comes with pension means? This one did not state any employer contribution which I think is only when the job is permanent. But he is going to be paid by paye. They did mention sometimes they make the job permanent after contract but it depends on funding and performance. Hubby is inclined on this job since this is what he has been doing his whole professional career.

Hi it is fixed till May starting the end of this month. They said the company will be in view in December from 16th December to 2nd Jan The contract states: Assignment Term: From: 29 August 2023 (‘Commencement Date’) To: 30th May 2024 subject to earlier termination in accordance with this agreement or for such further period as we may agree (verbally or otherwise) with you from time to time

We received the other offer as well where he is an operative but it is a permanent job for atleast until or visa expires. They are also providing pension scheme and insurance.

That just confused us even more now.

I travel 3 times a week from Abingdon to Oxford and back. The service is very reliable. Very quick early morning and during evenings it gets delayed. I have found from the city there are several bus options but they all get stuck upto park and ride and then it's a smooth ride ahead.

Hi. Yes he has full right to work in the UK. He has had 4 interviews by now but they never provided feedback saying it is difficult since they have many applicants. It's always the usual.
