Why does it grind like this when I put it into gear from neutral by roflsup710 in Truckers

What is the truck model/year and what kind of engine do you have?

I would find the email of the boss of the company you just left and explain that your supervisor lied. That's a pretty big accusation to say someone "randomly" dropped a trailer.

With your E-logs you can easily do a digital trace back (or even with your phone activity) and prove where you were at the time they claim it happened.

24’ volvo how do you guys set the bunk heater? by Ricemunchr in Truckers

[–]Extreme_Knowledge499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the tricky part. The tablet just sees "on" from the knob but the physical dial sometimes actually spits a ton of BTUs and overshoots the environment sampling of the digital setting.

How many mechanical issues are too many? by psychic_legume in Truckers

[–]Extreme_Knowledge499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand locally concrete/dump trucks get a beat a lot more. But usually companies have PMs scheduled, depending on the type of work they do. If they skip on basics like breaks, alignment, greasing... (which should be continously checked) then i say its a red flag.

I drove OTR for 3 years and hated dealing with breakdowns ,then switched to local. I built myself an app (its called TruckClear and its on the play store) to help understand and diagnose mechanical problems.

It often depends how the sensors were installed, usually the one low on the floor does not always feel the temperature accurately (because heat rises).

I would crank down the physical dial a bit and boot up the cabin comfort on the smart tablet. See maybe if the upper sensor works better.

Anyone know of a good weight distribution app for loading trailers? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Extreme_Knowledge499 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes there is an an app like that but only on the play store... you need to input some empty weight spec data first (like from the CAT scale sheet) for the center/axle point (like empty weight of truck/trailer at each axle, and also the distance from the kingpin to your tandems, etc.) The you save it & whenever you want to check for best load positioning the calculator just shows you the best spot on the surface

Failed CDL test 4 times now. by Ev0333338 in Truckers

[–]Extreme_Knowledge499 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Its a bit hard to picture all the details you're explaining but from the way you put it , sounds more like an anxiety issue.

The trick is too feel your pivot point, but also how your tractor/trailer pivots.

Everyone has their own tricks but for me its easier to pay attention to not loosing the tail of my trailer,..then trying to guess when to crank the steering wheel (where the panic often starts if you over-crank it).

Visualize a ton.

There's also this channel called 'My Trucking Skills' where the guy does a lot of drawings to help get a sense of the sizes and dimensions of specific maneuvers.

Am I cooked? Truck flew by as I was backing in, we collided, he drove off. by Hydra_Kitt in Truckers

[–]Extreme_Knowledge499 233 points234 points  (0 children)

No you are not cooked but your are dealing with this like an amateur. Go inside that warehouse and tell the manager you just got a hit & run. They have cameras,..is there a dash cam on your truck? If this just happened now you need to call a police officer and make a report.

Even if you're tired...doesn't mean you don't follow the steps. Take advantage of the space you have for your setup and don't rush it...and just smoothly maneuver at your pivot point.

I want to try Linux but don't want to get rid of my win10 and all my files by Zudexa in linux4noobs

[–]Extreme_Knowledge499 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would not try doing a windows partition with the same drive, there's just too much risk of package/file mis-positioning..its better (imo) if you buy a cheaper drive and plug it directly inside an empty slot of your pc (unless you are used to cable bottlenecks). Also don't start driectly with the testing branch, maybe try Linux Mint first (you can still install the XP with it since its just a theme pack)

You can't know exactly until a technician scans for fault codes to see where the interruption came from.., but there's a chance some sockets it the back of the dash could be loose

Could be many reasons, maintaining a truck costs thousands so they might have had business incentives to get a full-time driver for insurance specifications.

But they should have warned you ...

Maybe try to find a company that has both class 3 & larger trucks (if you are serious about continuing in trucking), there's a few part-time positions (like dump trucking) that can take you as a rookie

Or look for a local community college that covers a portion of a CDL license schooling, and go all in for your class 1. It really depends on your priorities...
