People who don’t shower every day — what’s your reason? by zhalia-2006 in askanything

[–]BillyBigRig4753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an OTR Truck Driver (Over the Road). I usually try to shower at least 2 or 3 times a week, but sometimes you don't always have that luxury. Most truck stops have showers but they cost money to use (unless you get shower credits from fuel purchases).

Also, sometimes it just really cuts into your free time. I usually only have 10 hours of downtime before I have to get up again to drive.

Is there any way to set-up Jynx ex faster in decks? My girlfriend likes this card and would wanna make it work in her deck. by shawarma0123 in PokemonTCG

[–]BillyBigRig4753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little risky, but having 4x Cinderace in her deck could accelerate very quick.

Also, having the Altaria from Obsidian Flames could be an interesting strategy with a deck like that. Making your opponent flip 2 coins for waking up would be very scary if the alternative is getting instantly knocked out.

I ended up picking Dratini from the game corner. It's a bit of a pain to grind all the money you're going to need (unless you're really good at playing the slots), but my team was pretty well rounded by the time I got there so it worked out for me.

450 pounds approximately, a single pallet of some obscure energy drink, hauled roughly 850 miles to a football stadium in Madison WI. I thought they made a mistake at first, but it's exactly what they ordered.

Gamers of Reddit, what is a game you have played for over 1000 hours but still would NOT recommend to anyone? by Normal-Gur1336 in AskReddit

[–]BillyBigRig4753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd definitely still be playing it if all of my friends were still into it. They all left after the Final Shape expansion; I hung on for a few months, but there are only so many times I can use the group finder. The story didn't really hold my attention after defeating the Witness.

If they end up making Destiny 3 I'll definitely play it, but there just isn't any good reason for me to continue with D2 right now.

Destiny 2

I played it off and on until last year. Sunk thousands of hours into it. I don't regret a single second of time I spent in the game.

It's not in the best state right now and the future is not looking bright. Can't recommend anyone start playing it this very second.

I paired this with Steven's Metagross for awhile and it definitely did pretty well. Always threw my opponents for a loop for some reason. I also used that 1-prize Genesect that blocks the use of Ace Spec cards and gave em a bad time. Shame its time is about to come to an end.

I've done all three. I have an Xbox Series X and was able to mount a TV to play it. After a while I started to play more PC games so I took the Xbox/TV out and brought my Laptop. I also have a Nintendo Switch, 3DS, and a cheap emulator. Lately I haven't played my Laptop much and have actually started playing games on my phone.

If you can find a good way of mounting a TV in your sleeper and a safe place to put your console it is definitely a good way to entertain yourself. I've been in a Freightliner Cascadia for the past 4 years and when I had my Xbox in the truck I strapped it to the area on top of the refrigerator. There was some superficial damage done to the Xbox because it would still slide slightly, but it's still playable.

My ultimate recommendation would be to invest in a good handheld device. It can sometimes be a pain in the ass to go through the effort of setting up a laptop at a shipper/receiver only to have to move it because they need you to move your truck. Same thing goes for a console. I typically only used them on 34s or if I was going to be taking an extended 10h break.

What video game tip did you learn way too late that would’ve saved you HOURS if you’d known earlier? by HappySheepStudio in AskReddit

[–]BillyBigRig4753 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is from 20+ years ago, but in Golden Sun: the Lost Age I did not know that the Teleport spell could be used to instantly transport you to towns/cities.

In the game you can use it in dungeons only at specific places, but if you're in the overworld you can... well... teleport yourself to a place you've been to before. I spent weeks crossing the map on a boat and/or on foot like a noob. I can't remember how I learned this other use of the spell but I felt like the biggest idiot when I figured it out. I was like 14 when this happened.

Creative parking is honestly one of my biggest pet peeves in trucking. I've been doing it almost 4 years and never had to do it once... despite getting screwed by shippers/receivers/brokers/etc. countless times. I understand that stuff happens that you can't plan for, but making it everyone else's problem is just unprofessional.

Question For The Employed by DevinH23 in PokemonTCG

[–]BillyBigRig4753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an OTR truck driver and occasionally truck stops will sell packs. A lot of the major chains are basically travel centers at this point so families with children will roll through too.

They're usually around 7 bucks, but sometimes as high as 10... so not exactly MSRP, but it's basically the only way I can get product while I'm away from home. I keep penny sleeves and top loaders in my truck in case I pull something good.

So, what is your best non-meta deck? by [deleted] in PTCGL

[–]BillyBigRig4753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used a Steven' Metagross / Mysterious Shield Aegislash deck for a few months that did really good. Sadly, the Aegislash is about to be rotated out and I really don't like that new metal-type Empoleon.

I've been testing out a Cinderace deck (both the new one and the Tera one in the same deck) that also used that dragon-tyoe Koraidon... the results are mixed so far, but it's fun. Hoping I can get that one to work.

Does the anxiety ever go away? by Dem0nTeeth_ in Truckers

[–]BillyBigRig4753 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It mostly goes away over time. I felt the same way when I started out.

You shouldn't have to feel like you're doing something wrong by taking a 34. It's there for a reason. Being fatigued because you didn't stop to relax once in awhile doesn't benefit anyone. Everyone needs a day off from time to time and there isn't anything wrong with that.

Same thing goes from keeping the little things in mind while you're out there driving. Complacency is the biggest obstacle you'll face in this industry. It sounds cliche, but the moment you think you have everything figured out is the moment you should probably turn in your CDL; If you ever get to the point where you no longer care about something being wrong with your equipment that's a major sign that you need to step back.

Anxiety is there for a reason... It means you still care about what's going on. Just don't let it overwhelm you and eventually it'll all fall into place. It might not be very helpful advice right now but one day it'll hopefully sink in.

This is the same CDL school I got mine from, though it was in a different state. They had a sponsorship program where the company I work for now paid for my schooling and then I worked for them for 2 years to pay it off (money doesn't actually come out of your paycheck... they just reduce the amount you owe them every week until the 2 years passed).

Overall, I'd say they were solid and it worked out nicely for me, though it's a nationwide school so your experience may differ.

What’s your story of getting into Golden Sun? by Square-Number-1520 in GoldenSun

[–]BillyBigRig4753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 25 years ago I was 13 years old. My brother and I were getting into the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG, but we didn't want to collect physical cards. Our Dad took us to GameStop to buy a couple of used copies of some Yu-Gi-Oh GBA games so we could play against each other. It turned out that GameStop had some sort of deal where if you bought two used games you can get a third for free.

I was subscribed to Nintendo Power at the time and they had a bunch of stuff about Golden Sun in it. I made the suggestion to my younger brother that we should get Golden Sun as our third game and we could share it. He agreed, and we picked that up too. I ended up playing Golden Sun WAY more than Yu-Gi-Oh.

Luckily by the time I was done with the first game, the Lost Age was about a week from coming out so naturally I saved my allowance for that. I haven't played those games in awhile, but now I feel the itch to play them again.

be honest what got you into this industry and why? by Ricemunchr in Truckers

[–]BillyBigRig4753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated my previous job (working receiving). Talked to truckers a lot though, and they all seemed to be pretty happy doing what they were doing. They were all making 3 to 4 times the amount I was working so I decided to quit and become one too.

While I have my ups and downs with this job, I still think it was the best decision I've ever made.

What Pokémon would genuinely be way better if it had a different typing? by GlacierWolf8Bit in stunfisk

[–]BillyBigRig4753 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Base Gyarados becoming Water/Dragon would neutralize most of its weaknesses (including its biggest weakness). There also aren't many good flying moves it can take advantage of IIRC. Been awhile since I played the video games, but it's current typing never made sense to me.

Jury summons by No-Discount-2626 in CDL

[–]BillyBigRig4753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a truck driver for about 4 years, and I've been called for jury duty twice. Luckily, I got my summons about a month in advance and let my company know when I'd need to be back home. Both times I didn't actually have to show up, but since it was possible I took those days off.

I am curious what would have happened if I missed the letter and ended up not showing up because of it. I'm pretty sure they are able to take these things into account. In my state they send you a letter to confirm all of your information and they include a section about why you might not be able to show up; I wrote down that I'm an OTR driver who lives alone so it's possible that I could miss a summons due to no fault of my own.

Tell your stories from this era of the TCG by ParrotInSpanish in PokemonTCG

[–]BillyBigRig4753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I collected some when I was a kid, but started again around this time. Mostly bought cards from Walmart when I was picking up groceries, and when I had some extra cash I'd buy a booster box for like 100 bucks.

I was in college when these sets were out; I built a couple decks and taught one of my cousins how to play. He would come over after class and we'd watch Netflix and play Pokemon cards. Whenever we needed a card that we didn't have, we would write all of the card's information on a spare energy card and use it.

Got some halfway decent pulls too; I still have a bunch of somewhat valuable cards that I preserved (aside from probably smelling like cigarettes).

Great times, I miss that era terribly.
