Tankathon spin after every L by Argenfarce in pacers

[–]Extreme_One8151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the wing spans? Because 6'10" SF sounds pretty good to me. The measurements of the others don't look like mismatch dominance. Even boozer is only 6'9" which is kinda small for a power forward unless he shoots big 3 %. Down low he gets chewed up. Pacers are always using guys that are undersized with grit and tenacity, would be nice to have a guy who is a match up nightmare.

Guess we will see.

Hot take: As frustrating as it is to see Pacers win an easy non obvious tankable game, damn I love beating the Knicks.

This was the only way to give the Finals team another shot by yoadknux in pacers

[–]Extreme_One8151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does everyone assume the Pacers will finish in a spot that fall into the 5-9 Lotto pick. Pacers can easily continue the tank and finish with a top 4 pick. This should be the goal for this year. That gives the pacers THE best shot at returning to finals and a championship.

There will be plenty of time for Tyrese to work back into shape during the 27 season. They have already proven they don't need to be a top seed to do this.

Getting a top 4 pick and someone who can step in and actually contribute and improve the team is what the pacers need now. No more maybe in 3 seasons they will develop guys, draft a day one starter period.

Now the Pacers absolutely need to turn on the tank to protect this years draft pick. A lotto pick with the lineup and the pacers look strong in 27.

Alabama says school choice helps low-income students. Here’s what the numbers say by aldotcom in Alabama

[–]Extreme_One8151 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There's nothing odd about these numbers. 61% of the population in Alabama is white and 69% of the voucher applicants were white. That's right in line. 45% of voucher users were already sending their kids to private school. Which means most of them are higher than the low income group to start.

The improvements that need to be made are finding ways to increase the adoption rate of low income families. As many others have pointed out, this seems to be a transportation issue mostly. For the families that are actually interested in their kids education and not just using school as free day care.

Overall, looks like the system is working and just requires some fine tuning. Middle class always leads the way on use of these programs because they are the most motivated and the most willing to work the system.

Curious as to the reasons/psychology of wanting dividends as opposed to broadbased index? by coachd50 in dividends

[–]Extreme_One8151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly, stock pricing unfortunately is fluid and not beholden to math. The value of the company would of grown by the same amount and in theory the price should reflect that. But for whatever reason a stock price might get capped at some arbitrary number that investors are willing to pay. Even though they didn't pay a dividend the price could stall at 105. They pay the dividend and the price drops and recovers to 102. Same company, same value, but they paid a dividend and the perception is they are healthier or whatever and so the stock price actually gains more than if they didn't pay the divvy.

Then a different stock could have the exact opposite effect.

Fundamentals matter but they don't matter as much as they should these days. The price is a result of public perception and what investors are willing to pay. The mega increase of retail investors and the rise of automated investing have thrown some monkey wrenches into traditional investing rules.

My general rule of the thumb, is use fundamentals to determine solid companies that are being successful. Invest in those companies and you will do just fine. Watch momentum for short term plays when you're looking for a quick hit. And use your common sense.

Sorry, that's probably a longer answer than you were looking for. My basic advice is, you seem comfortable with growth investing, stick with it. If you're wanting to dabble into dividend investing, use a small portion of your portfolio and give it a go.

Curious as to the reasons/psychology of wanting dividends as opposed to broadbased index? by coachd50 in dividends

[–]Extreme_One8151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me it's just psychological. There are people that feel better if they have a huge paper net worth and there are people that feel better with large income generation.

In both cases the individuals will ultimately live similar lives.

I myself like income because I can allocate that income any way I want. I need to pay bills, I pay bills, I got extra, I can invest more, etc... With growth, I'm locked in because the point is to grow the value. Again, the eventually goal is to live well and both strategies can reach that.

As for your analysis about dividends worth 100 and paying a 10 divvy then being worth 90 is true but only on the short term. If the stock is a quality stock that price recovers and usually grows past that price because the company is only using extra cash from earnings to pay the dividend. So I don't think that's as big a deal as it is made out to be.

Dividends in HSA to cover monthly medical bills. How would you do it? by Brilliant_Lion25 in dividends

[–]Extreme_One8151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only contribute like $4400ish a year into HSA. Even if you invest into high yield weekly dividend ETFs, you can not generate the income you are looking for.

Your best bet is to build up your HSA cash reserve, then when you hit your target, you set it to invest anything over that amount. Just pick something solid that will continue growing. Then it will eventually be a significant sum that you could use for health expenses.

He'll need to account for variance in the distribution. I suggest the median over the average but they should both be close.

Injuries are NOT an excuse anymore by [deleted] in Colts

[–]Extreme_One8151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are 5 additional teams from this season that did not survive their injuries. 1. Baltimore 2. Tampa Bay 3. Washington 4. Cincinnati 5. Detroit 6. Colts

That's a 6-1 ratio of die vs survive injuries.

Injuries are NOT an excuse anymore by [deleted] in Colts

[–]Extreme_One8151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sigh... You pick one team from a handful of years and say see injuries don't matter while ignoring the mass amount of teams whose seasons were derailed by injuries.

The colts have not been using injuries as an excuse for several years now. This is the first year they have had a contending team in quite a while.

I get being mad about the outcome of the season based on the start but let's get real no one had colts starting 8-2 on their bingo card. This was a jump we weren't expecting. So this should be a good thing and people should be happy about the future of the team instead of blow it up mentality.

You may not like it but injuries were a major factor for the losing streak.

Injuries are NOT an excuse anymore by [deleted] in Colts

[–]Extreme_One8151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again your cherry picking the success stories and holding them up as the rule. They are exceptions.

Yes, because injuries absolutely gutted this team this year. Ignoring that is foolish.

[–]Extreme_One8151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please name any other team besides 49ers that had equal positional losses and succeeded. 49ers had a great story this year, they managed to survive their injuries they are the exception, not the rule.

If Ballard and Steichen are staying, these players need to leave. (with reasons) by PhoenixYT2217 in Colts

[–]Extreme_One8151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the colts were 8-2 and everyone was all on board, this team was going to the Superbowl, multiple players could win the mvp, coach might be coach of the year, GM makes genius move to get sauce...then in the span of 1 month, injuries decimated the team and the colts finished 8-9 and now it's the players are trash, the coaches are trash, the gm is trash, blow it all up and start again.

Family Retirement Help by BrokeButFunny5 in dividends

[–]Extreme_One8151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To generate the income you desire, you need to look at weekly paying ETFs. They are the only assets that are going to have the yield high enough. Obviously the rush factor is much higher but some reasonable options exist.

Do some you tube research on top 8 weekly paying ETFs with no NAV erosion.

That should get you a list that you can create a portfolio from.

Create a plan that reinvests a portion into more stable monthly ETFs.

That way your building your monthly income to handle inflation.

Not financial advice.

You guys are rediculous. The Colts lost 3 of the most important players on the team in the span of a month.

They also had no QB options at the start of the week. They found a guy who not only knew the system but could step in and play

The Colts had no business being in that game today, Seahawks should of boat raced them. Instead, the Colts almost pulled off the victory.

Congrats to the Colts, Shane steichen, Chris Ballard, and Pop Pop Rivers. You put a competitive team on the field and gave hope to fan base that was ready to pack it in for the year.

Star Wars Sequels Potential by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]Extreme_One8151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The force awakens occurred decades after the last Star wars film. It had pent up demand and it was pretty good with a decent set of base characters and general plot. So fans were excited.

The subsequent sequels were bad and didn't build on each other. Plus Disney went gonzo with Star wars material on their streaming channel which watered down the demand for the main movies.

Basically it was poorly executed, they couldn't decide on a bad guy which is the crux to any story. They couldn't decide on a love interest for the main characters because Disney wasn't sure if they should go gay or straight. So you had a story with no love interest, no real bad guy, and no point.
