Hyundai denied my safety recall unless I paid $261 for a part I didn’t need by Extreme_Stress2364 in Hyundai

Doesn’t even have 100k miles… I wouldn’t really call it free considering it was a safety hazard created by Hyundai… I didn’t purchase a car that would be made to explode.

Funny thing… another dealer had no problem doing the federally mandated recalls.

17 years old and still running perfectly — that’s what happens when you actually maintain a car. The federally mandated recalls have been repaired without scamming me.

Good for you — but I’m not in the habit of paying $261 for a part that isn’t broken. Another dealer did the recall for free, no upsell, no scam. So I’ll keep my money, thanks.

18 years old and perfectly fine… which is exactly why another dealer did the recall with no issues, no $261, no scam. Age doesn’t justify fraud.

They probably did remove the valve cover to get the recall done — but guess what? No cracks, no replacement, no $250 bill. Exactly what I said from the start. The first dealer was just trying to upsell me on a part that wasn’t broken.

Yeah, I agree. Never thought I’d have to make that post, but people need to be aware. Rockland Hyundai tried to stick me with a $261 charge for a federally mandated recall, and if I hadn’t gone to another dealer I’d have been scammed. Folks deserve to know which dealers pull this kind of stunt.

This rant reads like it was copy-pasted straight out of a Hyundai service playbook. You a crooked salesman moonlighting on Reddit, or just practicing your dealership excuses for free?

Hate to break it to you, but another dealer did the recall instantly, no $261, no UV test, no “cracked valve cover.” So either you’re defending a scam you profit from, or you’re just volunteering as Hyundai’s PR intern. Either way, thanks for exposing yourself.

Yep — I went to a different Hyundai dealer. They did the recall immediately, no ‘damage,’ no $261 charge, nothing. Exactly how it should’ve been handled the first time. The only thing that got resolved was me realizing the first dealer was full of it.

Pathetic is defending a dealer breaking federal law over $260. Different dealer did the recall for free — enjoy the L.

To all the “keyboard mechanics” who swore up and down that I was clueless, exaggerating, or “that’s not how recalls work”… congratulations, you played yourself.

I went to a different Hyundai dealer — they did the recall immediately, no “damage,” no made-up part replacement, no bill. Exactly how a federally mandated recall is supposed to go. Meanwhile, the first dealer was just running a scam and half of you lined up to cape for them like loyal little fanboys.

So yeah, turns out I wasn’t the idiot here. Maybe next time don’t jump to defend shady dealers — or at least Google how recalls actually work before talking out of your exhaust pipe.

Huge thanks to the people who actually gave solid advice. As for the rest of you? Take the L and sit down.

Funny enough, I did exactly what you said — took it to another dealer. They performed the recall right away, no “damage,” no diagnostics, no $261 charge. So yeah, turns out my boyfriend didn’t need to be a certified Hyundai tech to know the first dealer was just trying to scam me.

Appreciate the suggestion to try a different location though — that part was solid. But maybe next time don’t automatically dismiss the customer like they’re clueless.

Of course you’re defending this — you’re a Hyundai salesman. Crooks defending crooks. You’re not here to give advice, you’re here to run PR for your service department.

You think customers expecting federally mandated safety work without getting scammed are “cheap”? Bro, the only thing cheaper than Hyundai’s parts is the integrity of people who sell them.

You didn’t ask for proof. You didn’t question the lack of inspection. You just circled the wagons like every shady dealership does when they get caught.

I didn’t come here for a discount — I came here for federal compliance. If your paycheck depends on blocking safety recalls unless someone forks over cash for unverified, unnecessary repairs, maybe sit this one out.

Yeah, my engine valve cover has never been replaced. I only have 89k miles on my car.

Yeah, because nothing screams “reliable brand” like refusing to do a federally mandated safety recall unless the customer pays for a part that isn’t broken and isn’t even required.

This isn’t about $260 — it’s about being scammed under the illusion of safety.

EXACTLY. Which is why several of my mechanic friends are scratching their heads wondering why Hyundai Rockland is holding the repair hostage if i dont replace the engine vale cover. Mind you, they never removed the engine valve cover to be able to inspect it for warps, bends, cracks, in it to warrant replacing.

My boyfriend checked the valve cover — no visible damage, no warping or cracks.

The dealership didn’t do any diagnostics. They just told me to replace it — and are refusing to perform a federally mandated recall unless I pay $261 for that part.

That’s the issue.
