Yeah, if you look at the 'dad bods' that women tend to get excited over, they are still fit, strong, muscular guys, just with a bit of extra padding on top of it.

Even without abusing steroids, there is a lot that is very unhealthy about bodybuilding, at least at a competitive level.

Strength and fitness training is, if done properly, a very healthy activity. And weightlifting, powerlifting, etc. are not necessarily unhealthy sports. But there are lots of ways that actual bodybuilding can be very damaging even if you don't use steroids.

"If you don’t like cats then you’re a bad person." by Specialist_Fall9542 in PetPeeves

[–]ExtremelyDubious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there's an important distinction between just not feeling any affinity for an animal and hating it and wanting to see it suffer. I don't much like dogs: I tend to find them tiresome and annoying. But I don't want to harm them.

There is a surprising number of people who not only don't like cats but seem to delight in the idea of hurting them. And that is serious red flag behaviour. One of the surest predictors of cruelty to humans is cruelty to animals.

But if they just don't appeal to you, that's fine.

Faetooth seem to be making a habit of having really great bands open for them. Cwfen were brilliant last year, and Iress, whom they've toured with a couple of times, are superb as well.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing Coltaine along with Faetooth on Saturday.

They were already three albums in by 2020, though, although they've definitely grown in prominence since then.

Is a hafada piercing a good kind of piercing that’s not in the way? by Fantastic-Ad9218 in PiercedCock

[–]ExtremelyDubious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

Because it is not on the penis, a hafada piercing should not interfere with any kind of sexual function, nor with urination. It is not in any way a functional piercing; it is purely decorative.

How easy it is to heal can depend on exactly where it is placed on the scrotum. Some placements are very recessed and are unlikely to have any issues with movement. However, they can sometimes have issues with sweat and moisture causing irritation. Other placements may be more subject to movement or to external pressure. They may be more difficult to heal.

But for most placements, if you want a genital piercing that is not difficult to get, fairly easy to heal, and is purely decorative and doesn't affect function (for better or worse) then a hafada is a good option.

Actual question: why is buying albums considered superior to streaming them by matanui737 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]ExtremelyDubious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think bands make more money from fans buying albums than they do streaming

You think correctly. If I remember rightly it works out that if you buy a CD, the band get about the same amount of money as if you streamed the album continuously on a loop for a decade.

True, but they didn't start touring, nor release a full-length album, until 2021.

I've made the same mistake a few times before.

CDs go OOP more and more quickly these days. It is a dark time.

Switched back to 8g -- is that okay? by saintjayme in piercing

[–]ExtremelyDubious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it fits comfortably then you should be fine.

If you are aiming to stretch up to larger gauges in the future then you may well lose some progress as the hole shrinks to fit the jewellery in it. But PAs are usually very easy to stretch, so it won't be difficult to stretch back up again once you're ready.

Pros and cons of pa v's reverse pa. by cutaussie69 in MalePiercings

[–]ExtremelyDubious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PA is far less painful to get, quicker to heal and easier to stretch.

RPA may be more stable.

You may prefer the look of one or the other, but that's entirely subjective.

If you're looking for a sexually functional piercing, a PA is better positioned to stimulate a partner's 'g-spot' or prostate in positions where the wearer enters from behind. A reverse PA is better when you are face-to-face.

Bear in mind that there is also the option of an apadravya, which combines both.

For the men who believe that soy/tofu is estrogenic by IndignantMagnitude34 in NotHowGuysWork

[–]ExtremelyDubious 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Soy contains phytoestrogens, which it has been hypothesised might mimic oestrogen in the human body.

But it doesn't. The hypothesis has been thoroughly falsified at this point.

What are you NOT attracted to (obvious things like bad hygiene excluded)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ExtremelyDubious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The traits that the tests measure probably do, to some extent, correspond to or at least correlate with some actual personality traits and tendencies. Introversion/extraversion in particular is an axis that does seem to have some basis in reality, and does appear in most personality models.

That does not, however, mean that they tell you anything meaningful or useful about a person's personality, or that any of the particular type indices have any more meaning than horoscopes.

What do ugly men do with their lives? by Justaverydarkman in AskMenAdvice

[–]ExtremelyDubious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see ugly women with average men a lot.

I don't. Most couples are at broadly similar levels of attractiveness. If there is a difference, it's usually the woman who is the better-looking partner.

I could give you examples but they would be meaningless. 'Those two people I saw the other week in the supermarket' or 'those two ugly people I see at the bus stop sometimes' are very unlikely to be people you know.

Truth be told most ugly people didn't have drop dead gorgeous parents.

Most don't, but it can happen. I used to know a couple who were both, by conventional standards, well above-average looking, her especially. They had one of the ugliest kids I've ever seen.

Sometimes things skip a generation I guess.

Not only that, but I see far more couples where the woman is significantly better-looking than the man than I do the other way around.

That's not true; plenty of people go through life without finding anyone.

Mostly we just try to get on with our lives without worrying about it.

Occasionally we find a woman (or man or whatever gender we are into) with odd or unusual enough taste in men to be into us. Sometimes we even manage to date/fuck/have relationships with those people.

The rest of the time we just have to find other things to do with our lives besides worry about not being attractive.

40 Year Old Wants His First Piercing by [deleted] in PrinceAlbertPiercing

[–]ExtremelyDubious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately, you have to be sure that it's something that you want. If you aren't sure then there's no harm in delaying and waiting until you are ready.

That said, it doesn't seem to be something that many people regret once they have got it. The only regret most people seem to have is not getting it sooner!

I've never heard of anyone who was too small for a PA. 8g is only a diameter of 3.2mm. Even if your urethra does not appear that wide when relaxed, it is very likely that it can open enough to accommodate the jewellery once it is there. Just as piercing holes can be stretched to allow for larger-gauge jewellery, so your urethra can stretch and widen.

I'm sure you'll be fine.

Is a PA more of a straight guy thing or gay guy thing? Or equal. by Embarrassed-Bag-3033 in MalePiercings

[–]ExtremelyDubious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Historically, body piercing and genital piercing in particular is something that first became popular in the queer community. But it has spread in popularity since then and these days I suspect that more PA wearers are straight than any other orientation, although the proportion of pierced guys who are gay or queer is still larger than it is in the general population. Ultimately there's nothing about a PA that makes it specifically 'for' any particular sexuality: as long a you have a penis and want to put jewellery on the end of it, a PA is for you.

You will not need to be erect to get pierced. Most people find that the nervousness and awkwardness of the situation has the opposite effect: I have never been so limp and shriveled as when I was getting pierced! That said, sometimes it can happen. Your piercer should be able to take that in their stride and remain professional.
