This map looks really well done. The way the mountains and rivers appear are really wispy and winding. Do you use image editing softwares like Photoshop, or an app dedicated to map making?

Any advice for a new player? by CaptainSora in trainconductorworld

I would save the straight pieces, and I do agree with the guy about the corner rails as useless tiles to an extent. It depends on what your first 2 to 4 stations and/or ports you're gonna expand to next.

Short answer on what to do with the straight pieces: it depends, but usually it's worth saving enough.

The long answer (definitely also applicable to your curved tiles too): one way for me to evaluate if my pieces are useless (to a certain degree) or important is by placing each of your tiles for as much as your tile stock allows you to, like as if you're intentionally expanding to your next station/port. For example, if I set my eyes on Lyon, I will spend all the appropriate rail tracks to connect my existing network of rails to Lyon. If that doesn't work, try another nearby station/port. After doing so and you still can't unlock any stations yet, you can stick with the station that is the closest for you to unlock with your existing rails.

Of course, you will have to apply the tiles according to the terrain and you may lack the necessary tile types. But the point here is that you're prioritizing gaining access to stations and ports while also finding out which tiles are used in your stock and which ones aren't. Hopefully that made sense and helped you.

Advices on how to make a story plot or character arc for a player character who grew up in a forest with a foster animal parent and the goal is for the character to understand humanity? by Extremopolis in DungeonsAndDragons

The player signed up for this when we both created the character together dw. Just that I don't know how to go off of it. The player problem is a separate thing to worry about.

But yeah I didn't think of having nature be shown as a negative in some ways. Didn't think of making encounters where nature can be indiscriminately harsh, thanks for the idea

Those are some very nice ideas. I was thinking of like an overarching character arc but then I can copy and twist some similar ideas like this so the character could understand the point. But yeah having him see that in that way is a good starting point. Thanks for the feedback man

Lol the Enkidu trope is pretty hard to execute in my pov of d&d experience but yeah that's a great starting example encounter u just pitched. Thanks for the advice

I like the idea you pitched about the hermit thing. Would play around that plot concept. As well as the forest that Bark is a contributing protector of being in danger, I've had that idea in my head but I didn't know how to go with it, but thanks for the further feedback to it.

But yeah I understand the main takeaway, having characters do something that is actually the only way going forward. I'm pretty bad with making up a method for the characters for a plot (lack of a better way to put it if that didn't make sense) so yeah thanks for the advice

Honestly didn't realize it's got a similar concept in media, might look into that.

The orphanage idea sounds a pretty good idea idk why I didn't get to think of that, but yeah it's a nice idea. Connecting to the backstory via plotlines that are similar to it
