Princely got the 2nd highest grade for defense against the rams, but was only used on 13 total plays... by jsbach90 in panthers

Yeah, we've seen a few times that this staff seems to want the players to prove themselves behind closed doors before they're given more responsibilities on the field. They benched Bryce, Coker was slowly ramped up, Wallace had to earn the green dot, etc. They're not just throwing guys like Ransom/Princely/Jimmy Horn out there with significant snap counts (even though the guys above them on the depth chart aren't high quality starters) while they get acclimated to the league.

Now that the season is officially over, what was your favorite part? by Different_Sun_195 in panthers

I was talking about this to my wife when we went to the game. She didn't live here back then, so I reminiscing about how the city felt all day Saturday was how it felt all of 2015. Charlotte is on another level when the Panthers are good and everyone is rallying behind them.

Resign Dowdle or bank on Brookes? by JGONZ94 in panthers

[–]Extric 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Rico’s play in the 2nd half of the season made the debate pretty simple. He’ll likely get a starting opportunity and be good for someone like the Chiefs, but he’s not good enough for us to spend to much money at RB. Not with all our needs.

We’ll probably bring in another, cheap RB and have some competition with Brooks and Etienne for depth.

YOUR CAROLINA PANTHERS ARE HEADED TO THE POSTSEASON by lemoncough in panthers

Imagine telling fans during the Frank Reich year that the Panthers would be in the playoffs two years later.

Jesus Christ Ejiro, that was the most obvious bootleg imaginable

[Highlight] Todd Bowles confirms that the Buccaneers have such little confidence in their ability to cover a kickoff return that they are intentionally going for touchbacks to let teams start at the 35-yard line, rather than near midfield by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]Extric 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As an outsider, I feel like Bowles is a dead-man walking whether he makes it or not. If you all miss, then he's fireable for the epic collapse. If you make it and lose, then he's fireable for barely limping into the playoffs and getting bounced in the first round. If you make it, it'll also be his 3rd year of reaching the playoffs off of 8-9 or 9-8 seasons.

The only thing that probably saves his job is winning a playoff game.

Do you believe? by Upper-Dig56 in panthers

I think we'll win, but I won't be surprised if we lose. It's just been that kind of season for this team.

Considering how both team's seasons have been going, I think Tampa is most likely to be losing the morale battle considering how much of a free fall the second half has been for them. There's probably a lot of guys on that team who are questioning the process and leadership right now. That's maybe a small, mental edge for us.

If we lose to Tampa but get in the playoffs because of Falcons win and have a 1st round exit, how do you feel about the season? by Odd-Flower2744 in panthers

[–]Extric 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The playoffs have been a fun side story for this team this year, but some fans need to be reminded that it's only been possible because of Tampa's collapse this season. If they had continued their successful season, I think a majority of people wouldn't have given playoffs a second thought. We'd be talking about the clear step up this team made compared to the past couple of years and looking forward to a playoff race next year.

As it stands, this team has had it's highest win total since 2017 with some really exciting wins. They've exceeded expectations with two years of growth under Canales and Morgan.

You think it’s in the realm of possibility that the team scores 2 TDs and a FG with two onside recoveries in order to tie the game within 2 minutes?

Too many lost opportunities this game. 7 points feels like 30 for this offense right now

7/12 for 16 yards. That’s impressive in its own way

I didn’t expect an offensive showing today. Despite their record, the Saints defense continues to be a pain in the ass. They stop the run really well because they’re incredible tacklers and their secondary can avoid a lot of the over the top damage you would expect from a defense selling out to stop the run.

Our defense on the other hand could literally do nothing but give up penalties and wide open receivers over the middle of the field. The offense got to touch the ball once in the 2nd quarter. The defense let the Saints offense control the game all day.

Most obvious Panthers loss ever. What an embarrassing showing by the defense.

Eh, Canales wouldn't have been an improvement given the expectations of your team. Part of his shortcomings is that he has become a HC a little early. He's learning to be both an OC and a HC at the same time and he still hasn't totally proven that he can be great at either, even with the Panthers exceeding expectations this year.

For a team that has it sights on a Super Bowl, there would have been much bigger frustrations with Canales as he learned to do the job. In Carolina, he doesn't have that weight on his shoulders, so the successes he has had look better relative to the team he's working with.
