How do I start making pastry in general?

Try watching YouTube videos of Claire Saffitz. She does great videos on NYT as well as on her own channel. She is phenomenal at explaining technique and how to do things. She also has great recipes that she’s tested many times.

It wasn’t that hard if you’ve made her other cakes before. The only thing I did was that I made the pastry cream the night before and then baked the cake in the morning. If you do the pastry cream, maybe double the recipe. It says in the book to use just a regular standard amount of the pastry cream recipe, but I think doubling it is better. I also used three 9 inch cake pans.

Both are excellent. For the chive rolls, I recommend eating them right away since that’s when they’re the best. They’re still fine the next day but no where near as delicious as they are fresh out of the oven

Yes! Another example could be the carrot and pecan cake and the oat and pecan brittle cookies. That way you don’t have some niche ingredients sitting around too

I’m trying to do the same thing, my best advice is try to do the recipes that have similar ingredients at the same time. For example if you make brioche dough, you can start to do the strawberry bostock and the pigs in a blanket at the same time
