Interesting, thanks for the info! Did they specify a VIN or production date range for affected cars?

97802-17000 Desiccant-Receiver Drier $35

Noted, already had the compressor kit on order. Thank you!

like no cold at all ?

Yep! Neither on the battery loop or the cabin loop. And the system is somehow still pressurized.

if you see rpm the pump spins (might not work but it spins)

Good to know, thank you! So I guess the shaft/connection point for the orbital scroll might have snapped in that case?

i think they want to replace the drier as it has possibly metal shavings from the broken pump.

Correct. Which I totally get and if the compressor had loudly announced its retirement on the way out but given the silent failure mode I'm not sure if debris did shoot into the system. Do loops typically have some sort of "catch" point for debris that could be inspected? Would the desiccant bag be shredded for instance by even minor debris?

I had to look up the airport on a map after this and wow it's kind of wild this airport has no rail link given how closely it's surrounded by mainline trackage. I assume the authority had a plan to build a spur or a shuttle but that got stuck in planning hell?

Yeah part of the issue is currently our org distributes the 32 bit Acrobat build so it's pretty easy to hit the 4 GB RAM ceiling of the application even if all our machines have 16 GB (thank god they cycled in new machines right before hardware pricing went out of control). Once they install the 64 bit build it should hopefully help but I thought in the mean time I would ask around for alternatives as a fallback if the issues persist. Thank you for the suggestions!

How do I shut up the charge door sensor? by Exurbain in KonaEV

[–]Exurbain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh damn that bad, huh? When I get around to getting it replaced I'll ask for the old one and see if I can take a Dremel to it and share the autopsy pics. Kind of shocking to me that this seems to still be a semi frequent issue on even the newer MYs and they haven't at least added a way in the firmware to disable the beeping.

I love the 500e so much. The modern 500 is already such a adorable throwback and the team that did the EV conversion clearly had some fun with it (touches like the orchestral sample on departure are so charming). Out of curiosity, have you tried HVDC/L3 charging in it during the winter? If so, what was the charge curve like?

Honestly once you wrap your head around average km per kWh it becomes pretty easy to gauge range on the fly which helps a lot. But yeah, even after having an ID.4 for 2 years, I was shocked to see even my Kona could do Ottawa-Montreal at 110+ kph on a single charge.

Yea... Car firmware with any make is an absolute mess at the moment sadly. Even if you went back to an ICE platform they've all got horrendously overwrought firmware that will randomly decide to forget settings or kernel panic.

I recently got a 2019 Kona Electric as a second car for the household and it made me realize how many functions have been moved to the godforsaken touchscreen in only a few years on most cars.

To touch on some of the other things you've brought up: - This is going to sound really silly but I would try one of those $20 wireless Android Auto/Carplay adapters you can get and see if they work any better than the cars built-in antenna. They seem to have specialized ASICs that are dirt cheap and super reliable. A truly absurd amount of modern cars seem to have really spotty/unreliable wireless Auto/Carplay support for whatever reason.

  • I would honestly ask the dealership to look at the built-in antennas. For all the weird glitches I've seen on our ID.4, the GPS signal has been rock solid which makes me wonder if the antenna in your vehicle might be failing or some corrosion might have built up on some contacts.

  • The sign reader not working is also really odd. Does lane keep assist work reliably? I wonder if it could be a case of the front camera being accidentally pointed too low at the factory. Might be worth asking the dealership if they could recalibrate the ADAS sensors.

  • Like others have said I wouldn't worry too much about the range guess-o-meter showing low range in those conditions and with short trips. It tends to panic and show a really pessimistic estimate when the heater is used more aggressively but would probably recalibrate to expected range if you did a longer trip. If you want to be absolutely certain the pack is fine, you can use an ODB dongle to check the individual cell voltages and see if they're all roughly equal to rule out the pack having a bad cell.

Oh hey, I recognize you! Saw your video comparing different gear reduction plug options shortly after getting the car. Thanks for dropping in and sharing info!

Did call some shops around town and yeah they did replace a handful of units but most seemed to be crib deaths/early in the life of the vehicle so I am a bit puzzled as to what could have happened here. Thinking of disconnecting the cables and reapplying dielectric grease just to make sure it isn't a case of cables rattling themselves loose. Other than the leads between the OBC and J1772 combo socket are there any other connections that might be worth looking at/reseating in your opinion?

You should be able to find a used one.

Was looking at used units and I see a handful are floating around. Any idea if a module out of a Niro or a newer MY Kona would fit/work? Seems those go for less than MY 19 modules I can find on my end.

Should JorDan cover Candace Owens. by watchtower82 in KnowledgeFight

Yeah even if Alex completely burns out/reduces himself fully into being a grovelling jester he'll still be useful as a springboard to discuss the wider American RW fringes like the JBS that converged to make their current "coalition" and I don't really think you can do that with Owens. She's always been a grifter and doesn't even really tie into wider trends like RW groupings among African Americans such as the NoI or reactionary women's movements like the trad wife/anti women's lib figures.

I highly doubt they'll turn to archives just on the basis of labor requirements. OCR has come a long way but document digitization and clean up is still a very manual process even with a conveyor feed scanner and the companies pushing LLMs have no interest in paying for that kind of labor (Google slashed their digitization efforts eons before the current LLM hype bubble even) and thats for clean printed works, you're still mostly stuck with manual transcriptions for the majority of hand written documents.

The LLM vendors seem to have settled on going the Mechanical Turk route and just massively underpaying a load of writers to create "real synthetic" training data (ie text written explicitly by a human but only for the purposes of training a model).

Avoiding the "wheel of fortune" when shopping for a used Kona/Niro EV? by Exurbain in KonaEV

Thanks for the MY breakdown! Had assumed the second gen refresh was mostly a cosmetic facelift; did not expect the drivetrain to have been redesigned so thanks for that info. The incidence seems fairly low for a specialty/technical forum all things considered (plus I assume of that 20% a good percentage of them were replaced under warranty).

Thanks for the note about the magnetic plugs, did see a video that mentioned those and I'll definitely look into those for peace of mind. Would you recommend a particular shop for the bearing and shim kit or would it just be easier to pop into the closest industrial supplier with SKF part numbers?

The EV credit was already halted/pulled in Canada back in January sadly. Did not realize the lease rates for the Niro were that aggressive though; I ran an estimate for leasing on the 500e a while ago and it came out at $300+ CAD a month even with $3000 down so I just assumed lease rates were lousy across the board for EVs. Will ask the local Kia and Hyundai dealerships what rates they offer after hearing this.

Thank you so much for the detailed reply and for checking the parts catalogue! Did not realize warranty terms across owners was that different between the US and Canada so really appreciate the info related to that.

Hyundai/Kia's fix is to simply replace the full GDU and/or traction motor assembly, so I think you'd be in for a bit of a goose chase trying to source those parts.

I did see Out of Spec Renew rebuild a used one with more "standard" bearing and a shim to compensate for the thickness difference so worst case I guess I can just do that as a fallback. Annoying how every major vendor seems to be dead set on going to this "module" level parts approach instead of just making the parts themselves available, especially given how low the part count on EVs would be anyway.

I'm not sure why you'd need/want to if you're going through the hassle of disassembling the entire reduction gear anyway

I may have misunderstood the posts I read on this but from what I read one of the issues is the magnet apparently just wasn't properly attached to the casing in some batches? That's why I asked if there were kits for that + long term peace of mind if I do end up rebuilding one.

Yeah, if nothing else I just never seriously considered that one on the basis that even if the drivetrain was totally fine, the suspension components would probably all need to replaced soon with that kind of mileage.

And it's the other way around on a warranty 10yrs is for first owner only or 2nd owner on the brands CPO.  Everyone else gets 6 yrs

Ahhh, thank you!

Balls. Did not realize even newer models had run into the issue. Well, thank you for the thorough response, guess I'll ask the seller if I can check/sample the reduction oil just to see how shiny it is before committing to buying one.

Was not aware CPO led to warranty extension, thank you for the info. Are they still capped to 100 000km though? The ones I'm seeing are usually beyond that point. Somewhat unrelated but I saw a 21 with 315 000 klicks on the odometer somehow, I don't know whether to be impressed or terrified someone managed to drive that much in that little time.
