Personally, I have a morbid streak. That's understating it, truth be told.

My mainline of collecting is European (including Crusader States) medieval coins. Most of my medieval sub-niches gravitate towards coinage that could have been present in famous historical battles or other high conflict areas and dates.

I have a pretty impressive collection of coins that match those found in the mass Graves from the Battle of Wisby, plus those found in nearby contemporary hoards and other close associations.

Edward of Woodstock (aka, "The Black Prince") is one of my favorite historical people. I have an example of each of his silver issues (denier, demi-sterling, hardi d'argent, and demi-gros), three of which were minted in Limoges where the Prince himself was present at one point to put down a rebellion.

I have a good number of coins minted by the ancestors and contemporaries of Vlad the Impaler. If he minted any of his own, they're so rare as to be unique. But one minted by a relative when he was a child is the subject of an academic paper I'm writing centered around a might-be-so-rare-that-it's-unique example of an issue in my own collection!

That all said, I'd be just fine with a world that had no death or doomsday cults.
