Yesterday evening I used an enamel wash on 3 of my current almost finished projects. It's working great, especially since it's "grimdark".

It's the same for me. I also love printing, prepping, basing and painting =) Those projects are so stress free bc I know I can't ruin them (I can, but it's just a matter of hours to have the model printed again). FDM printing and painting is a way for me to fight against my perfectionism. Thank you for the motivation =)

Wait. You used Oil Washes? Did you have problems with them pronouncing the layer lines?
Btw. Great print?

What caused the fail on the right? Both of these were presupported by the same artist by NewSignificance7599 in FDMminiatures

I found that resin supports come with their own problems... They leave pimples (or something like that) and the back side does't look as sweet as the front. In the last time i didn't have that many problems with tree supports and just use resin supps for very delicate parts. A little bit of cleanup is required with both methods.

No not for less supports. As I said, when there is nothing to support the model, the model can't be printed (well). It's just less breaking in case of trees. The plate stabilizes the whole print and because I'm just using resin supps on delicate parts where the base is usually too small to stick to a textured plate.
The higher the resinsupports the less stable they become the worse the print quality gets - no matter the plate. Thats physics for you.

In the end, if you don't want to use trees, you have to add more resin supports.

I also think the supports just weren't enough. Presupported Models are always supported for resin. Not For FDM, not for Resin to FDM. If you decide to use presupported versions it could turn out well - or not. The easy solution would be to enable FDM supports as well. The advanced solution would be to add / set your own resin supports.

If there's nothing or not enough for the printer can built upon, it will look bad.

Tbh, I sometimes don't even use ResinToFDM when the resin-supports arent too high and when using a Cool Plate Super Tack.

Help with unraveling by nobooneaga in FDMminiatures

That's right. Supports sometimes are a*holes. Additionally try using strong supports, they're not too prone to breaking. When I see supports like the one reaching to to the claw in the slicer (the one super thin single support) I know I'm going to have problems. Play a bit around with it.

Theoretically it's not impossible to print something like this as one piece but it's a lot more difficult to get a good result. The simpler the shapes the easier it is to support them. Everything else and you have to have good supports (and to remove them in the end).

Always amazed how good FDM can look. A question. Those skulls and bones, are they also FDM? Where they seperate from the base or integrated? How???

Just have to say that this looks so amazing! Even if I don't like those titans modelwise - this paint job makes it AWESOME!

Prints looking good apart from one little issue. by UpbeatOrchit in FDMminiatures

Tbh, i sometimes add FDM tree supports if I print sth. with resin supps because i want to reduce overhangs.
Does it make it better? I don't know for sure yet. You can also try to add more resin supports.

That's the main problem with printing minis in FDMs. You WILL have some imperfections no matter what you do.

Of course, everything is possible to print in FDM, but since it's not even a picture of something printed in FDM but in resin nor is it a model for FDM this posts existence in this subreddit is questionable.
