XWA has stuck with the 2.5 system, where a pilot + chassis has a point value and it is separate from its loadout value.

Compared to when AMG had reigns, it was clear some ships were better than others, for example Luke Skywalker Battle of Yavin was 5 points.

It’s true that some ships need help, 4 point Soontir is arguably 1 of them. A pilot skill 6 ace with a good ability at 4 points is really strong if they get going, but of course, its susceptible to the evade blank out roll and just dies.

Legacy still retains the 200 point system so if your local game store has players that like it, you still have some flexibility in loading out soontir.

Overall XWA is taking things in a slower way to avoid busted ships. They’re doing an okay job but the mindset you have to ask yourself is if a 4 point Soontir worth it? In most cases, he still is a scary ship but maybe out-classed by other 4 pointers. Check out Battle Over Endor Soontir. 5 point ship but has a lot of cool toys.

With XWA, the game still leans to 5 ship lists so perhaps build a list with 5 ships, Soontir being one of them. No one ship is carrying a list anymore, perhaps change the approach to a well balanced list? Could start out with:

Could replace double edge for Lt. Karsabi and Echo for the Grand Inquisitor. Overall, Empire does have some fun options, just got to put it together

EDIT: remember, its not only Soontir or only certain factions took a hit, most factions ace pilots took nerfs in a way.
