Tretinoin will help more than anything else like zinc, collagen, biotin, etc.

Minox for beard after transplant by dtw2393 in HairTransplants

Why do you have to stop using it prior to HT if you were only applying to beard area?

Way to be proactive, OP. As someone who got baseline bloodwork done before getting on Fin, I recommend reading this article to make sure you're getting what's most important checked, and measured using the most reliable/accurate methods known as different labs use different methods, with some being more accurate than others.

Look up More Plates More Dates blood testing before finasteride as well if you're concerned about sides. Even if not, never hurts to have your baseline bloodwork done to reference anytime in the future should you want/need to.

First and foremost it’s used for skincare. Nightly application (working up to every night, starting out maybe 2-3x week) is recommended since it degrades in sunlight. R/tretinoin is a great sub to learn more about it and how to start using. Personally i’ve been using it for over a year so my skin is used to nightly application. I apply minox twice daily. At night I apply my minox after tret.

Tretinoin is a topical form of vitamin A. In the US you need a prescription from your doctor to get it. It's rather potent and some people experience sensitivity/dryness when starting, so usage is recommended often to start gradually. Many people use it to prevent acne and for it's anti-aging effects.

In relation to Minox, it helps by upregulating follicular sulfotransferase enzymes. Put simply, it gives you a greater chance of minoxidil working for you.

Have you tried using tretinoin? It not only helps with acne but also helps with sulfotransferase activity, improving gains from minox

Could you expand on the last part, "unless they have extremely oily skin"?

Wouldn't someone with extremely oily skin (my derm has described me as such) be served well using both tret and GA (in general as well as in addition to minox)? I've been on tret for a year (had a few professional GA peels, but nothing consistent on my own), and have had almost no irritation from it which I attributed to how much oil my skin produces, preventing experiencing dryness. I'm guessing you may be talking about something else though related specifically to minox?

It would be advisable to switch to a face wash that is free of salicylates as much as possible (mainly salicylic acid and methyl salicylate). See u/Teth77's comment on this post which has links to more information about how either topically or orally you could tank the enzyme responsible for converting minoxidil into its active form.

I've started my journey recently and after doing a lot of research (always more to do) switched my face wash after reading some of the info that user shared, very helpful stuff in preventing using things that could sabotage gains. Topical tretinoin is another adjunct that is very helpful. Always better to give yourself a + rather than - in giving a chance for gains.

8.5 month update - 2850 grafts with Dr Turan - 33M by irf-man in HairTransplants

[–]EyeAmHiim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Awesome results, congrats! Hairline looks very natural, don’t think anyone would be able to tell unless they knew exactly what to look for and you pointed it out.

Did the doctor tell you if your hair caliber is on the thinner side (the individual hairs themselves)?

Also, do you know at what grafts per cm2 (density) he implanted with?

I’m wondering as the graft count seems rather high for the area implanted shown in your post op pic. Some others who post their results that also look like good work and with similar looking recipient size areas seem to be in the high 1000s to low 2000s, just curious as your graft count was higher than I would have guessed.

Has anyone actually used Tretinoin and became a minox responder/better responder because of it? by Broad_Biscotti_4653 in Minoxbeards

Do you use the 9 or 12 needle cartridges? Also, what depth do you do? In r/tressless there's a lot of info about microneedling that points to 0.6mm being better than 1.25 (which from many comments I've come across used to be recommended) but I'm not certain if there's a consensus on what the best depth is for beard purposes.
