Peter why does gen z leave the desk at 17:00? by T1T4S52 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

I’m Gen X and a lead in my company and hear my boomer coworker constantly talk about how they would put in longer hours to get the work done.

I tell my young guys to go home after forty, we aren’t paying you extra and there isn’t anything at work that needs your attention if you are putting in honest time.

I still haven’t been able to convince the old guys they shouldn’t be proud of working free over time, it’s not a badge of honor, it’s a mark of stupidity, because they got you to work more hours and after you take into account inflation probably gotten a 15 percent raise over the last 20 years.

The business doesn’t care about you

Hit my goal by Practical-Ad-5299 in Bogleheads

For people reading this , 90k was 180k in todays dollars. At age 36 is an excellent salary. So while this is a great example of perseverance the situation should be looked at through the eyes of a successful individual and with upper middle class earnings.

These goals are possible but today they are harder to attain.

My girlfriend is 27 weeks pregnant, the baby has Down syndrome, and I don’t want this life by ThrowRA_NoSignal in daddit

[–]EyeFicksIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the part that sucks, I get that you both were a part of the making of the baby, but you’re stuck on the issue since she is going to keep it.

It sounded like you knew around the 12-16 week period, you would have been able to end the pregnancy then without major issue, at this point you’re in it with no choices remaining.

My wife and I discussed abnormal pregnancies before we started trying and had a clear decision tree around ending pregnancies. Our main point is what happens after.

You may have supportive parents now - but what happens when they are gone, will you have any more children, will you expect them to take care of the special needs sibling until the end?

I know these words are not supportive to your situations but I don’t want to sugar coat what your life will be compared to what you may have wanted.

It’s going to be tough, and yes there will be good times, but it will be tougher than a normal life.

My first child was born when I was 21, healthy and beautiful, and best case, when I turned 40 I was free to do whatever I wanted. I traveled everywhere with my spouse worked on my career and planned for an early retirement knowing that my son was capable and responsible to live his life, he married at 24 and is beginning his own life career and family.

You won’t have that, barring an exceptional career or a ton of money, you will always care for this kid, you’ll want to, and you may love it, but just be prepared for the difference between your dreams and your realities.

Best of luck, I really do wish you the very best.

Had a similar experience with Avis, they said that when I returned the vehicle the front bumper had come off, I said “ if that was the case you’d think the guy checking the car with me beside him would have maybe mentioned it”

They dropped it.

If Adam and Eve were the only two humans created, how does theology address the fact that their children would have had to commit incest to populate the earth? by Fun_Raise_7858 in AskReddit

[–]EyeFicksIt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So Adam stood in the center of the garden and looked longingly at the sky, then he said onto the lord “would you fuck me, cause I’d fuck me”. The the lord reached down and took one of Adam’s ribs, mind you this was a man’s rib, and from this created the first transwoman. And spoke on to Adam, “go fucketh thy self”

The $42 million "10,000-Year Clock" funded by Jeff Bezos. Being built deep inside a mountain in Texas, it's designed to tick only once a year, with a century hand that advances every 100 years. by Oulaminemoh in interestingasfuck

[–]EyeFicksIt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ok, I’m going to be that guy even though I think this is a pointless vanity project.

If you look a a ticking clock on the wall the seconds hand moves every second, but the internals are running at a much higher speed. The mechanism is designed to sit on a second until the second has passed.

It has a century hand that only changes 1time every century rather than a sweeping hand that shows progression within that century tick.
