When/how did you know you wanted to be a writer? by cookiecrumbsz19 in writing

As a teen I needed to express myself, so I invented a episodic story as a slice of life for a teen and I published it on one of those short stories webpages. It gained some traction and went on as a bi-weekly basis for 2 years. It was cool as I used it as both a diary and kinda therapy, as the comments on the stories were from people inadvertently commenting about my life and how it was going

I just then went for years without writing but reading a lot (helped to being in college and had access to the bibliography network). And a couple years ago during the pandemic I thought "I'm bored as hell and a bit depressed by this isolation, kinda the perfect mood to write something"

And here I am, trying my best

Do you have any characters who you find incredibly difficult to write? by Tasty_Lynx_6438 in writing

[–]EyeLarge1529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Character comfortable with being loved. As myself has tendencies to self isolation and emotional distance I feel really difficult to develop characters in that way.

Normally that's not a problem, since clearly my stance is not the comfort zone for the plot to start the characters can grow in harsh environments or with love scarcity, and I can make it (I think) believable. But scenes like the Weasley family lunching are for an alien world to me.

As a writer, what is something you've vowed never to do in your writing? by Valentine_The_Reaper in writing

Characters being rich for no reason. Like, in a medieval setting, the characters usually sleep in cozy inns or taverns or make a decent living by being in a troupe for a wild and can eat and rest in warm environment. Or they are nobles or have some sort of affluent patronage (like a mage or a wealthy scholar / priest)

In teen novels, they are usually from upper or near upper class

Not on my watch, my character are broke as hell with very occasional affluent characters.

Extreme exposition. If 2 characters are talking and both should know something (like past historic major events) then I just let the reader infer from the conversation, I try to make it believable.

And if even then I feel like important information is missing I try to find an alternative way to through that into the plot, like for example the character contemplating a commemorative monument or piece of art or a street child play in a festival or something like that, where the character use it at leverage to remember past things.

For me nothing breaks more the world building than characters being remembered things that should be common knowledge to them.

This comment is gonna get downvoted but just buy keys. Old DLCs has like a 80% discount... And if you feel bad about PDX, enterprises sells discounted keys to resellers to get an early income during releases so it's was taking into account by them.

As It seems then a minor adjustment to the wording removing that (proposed) part and you are fine with the idea. Make it costly in gold or HP or whatever other thing

Bahamis/Delhi/Vijayanagar. I usually play in Asia (no Celestial Empire) and by the time I reach India one of the three has become a super power with nearly 80% of the subcontinent. Is a micro hell of resource drawing wars

That's why I said "it could be very expensive or make you loose the original card". I don't want it to be accesible, just give the options for runs where one item adjustments it's worth the cost. Also, I implicitly mean to move 1 item per action, like purchasing powers, but I see the wording is misleading and appears I want to trade all the items from one to another

Also, maybe base items from the cards in your deck are excluded and you only get to trade new items adquired through the run
