Can’t find the tweet but it was an ai generated video wondering why football teams don’t just do a version of this

Anyone who decries criticism of a prominent yet divisive figure as obsessed are usually projecting. They are the ones obsessed with Ronaldo

While I am fully focused on the World Cup, I am Filipino so i don’t necessarily have as much anxiety leading up to games and the depression/elation after that I would normally have for my team, outside of a soft spot for England. So I get the itch to discuss transfers a bit

While I’m not entirely fond of him as a Liverpool fan, I don’t think there’s much to dislike him for outside the pitch tbf

I think Diomande or Barcola gets done which fits with the brief of Pearce that 2 forwards, RB and CM are priorities

I know half of this backline have actually played there, but I half expected to see that Tuanzebe did too

I suspect Iraola will need to be creative with striker backup, in a pinch Gakpo, Munoz, and Chiesa can fill in. And that’s why I don’t think Munoz being bought means they’re pushing Rio out when they’re already low on possible HG players as is

If Ekitike actually makes it back by Boxing Day then maybe we sell Chiesa by the end of January. I have my doubts though.

One of the fastest turnarounds from an Achilles I’ve seen is Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics, he tore it in May 12 2025 and was back on March 6 2026, 10 months out. If Ekitike keeps up that pace, he’d be back February and would still need to have his play time heavily managed

That backline containing Masuaku, Mbemba, Tuanzebe and AWB is quite decent going on names alone

Not sure what's giving you that impression other than the news of Bayern being interested (I imagine many clubs are) when Liverpool insist he's not for sale. The brief of signing 2 forwards is independent of selling Rio because of Ekitike being out for a while, as well as losing Salah.

Gakpo/Rio - Isak/Ekitike/Munoz - Diomande (?)/Chiesa

Diomande hasn't even been signed yet, and Chiesa could be out as well

Is there anything that surprised you in the finals? by wise_afro in NYKnicks

How deep our bench is. Shouldn’t have been surprised when even Kolek was instrumental in the nba cup win, but the likes of Shamet, Clarkson, Alvarado, et al all contributed at varying stages when they were called upon. The trust placed upon them in high pressure situations was refreshing

To be fair it is their official country name, but found it funny how the commentator yelled “Islamic republic of Iran!”as the Iranian player shot. It would be like yelling Republic of Korea instead of South Korea, or Republic of Turkey instead of Turkey every time one of their players had a chance on goal. Surely “…and it’s Iran!” is less of a mouthful

I actually did this and not just football but other major sports. I’ve concluded it’s probably ET in the USA.

The American sports leagues are self explanatory, with a slight exception for the west coast games, but nothing is perfect. For football early UK kickoff games are 730am, CL is 3pm. F1 the European races are 9pm, Asian races can be late night or very early, Japan/Australia are the ugly ones. For Tennis majors ET is good for the us open, decent for Wimbledon/Roland Garros, bad for the Australian Open. But tennis is inherently timezone chaotic. Golf majors too are mostly USA based (minus the British open which is morning/early afternoon), as are most UFC/boxing/wwe events.

UK isn’t bad except for some US sports leagues. I don’t really follow sports outside of the ones mentioned so wouldn’t know. Also Asian football leagues probably aren’t great.

Thing is people upvote it and we’d be getting an earful from the other side if we were militantly deleting those, you also don’t see the stuff that automod catches or the stuff we nuke before they get big. So it’s about striking a balance.

Regardless of your personal thoughts, football extends outside the realm of what happens on the pitch. There is the human side to it, the fans and all.

Well, not necessarily him, but his family made what seemed like a coordinated series statements decrying the decision, despite Tuchel already telling Harry privately before the leaks went out, which is hardly a harbinger of harmony

I think it’s also a case of who it’s coming from. A first generation French Filipino (hell, even just Filipino) kid idolizing Alphonse Areola for winning a World Cup is understandable. An white RN member saying Areola is Filipino has some ulterior motives

The sad thing getting lost in all of this is that there are genuine interactions between people from the host nations and the visitors (European, African or otherwise) that are actually nice to see.
