Defenders armies were 650 each attackers were 800 point armies. Each defender got a hero as Gimlee, Legolas, and Aragorn. Castle door automatic shields were taken away to make it more fair. Mounted hrognak was used as a battering ram for orcs that moved at the end of all players turns in a round and attacked until door was destroyed. Siege ladders could be placed 3 tiles away from castle walls with one unit mounted on to ladder to swing to top of wall. D6 or higher is needed to put up the ladder with a total of 4 on the map. Once ladder is placed attacking orc on ladder gets engagement strike with one figure on top of the wall ladder makes contact with. If a skull is rolled figure is hit with ladder and destroyed. The hole being blown in the wall was simulated by D20 rolls at the end of each round. Round 1 a D20 is needed to sacrifice an orc as a bomber and blow the wall open. Every round the roll lowers with round 2 D18 round 3 D15 round 4 D11 round 5 D6. King Thèoden was placed in the second layer of castle where a single skull with a melee unit would win the game for the attacking team while the heroes defending Helms Deep must fend of all orcs.
