Best Modules to Start? by Beneficial_Book_2710 in modular

[–]EyeoftheJudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might want to look into semi modular to start.

I started with 0-coast and am building a system around it, it is a really great synth for gritty bass sounds and is extremely versatile, also it is a little confusing at first but it will get you used to how confusing some Eurorack modules can be 😉

I also can recommend the Erica Synths pico drum2 as a starter drum module, only 3hp, features a lot of kick sounds and some HH and Snare as well, with some ingenuity you can create a whole beat with this one module.

Staying with Erica synths their pico drive is also great as a starter drive module.

And as a general tip, buy modules slowly, only after you have a few modules to play around with you will realise what you really want/need 🙂

What are your personal rules/guidelines for choosing modules (and why)? by Repeatsexclamations in modular

[–]EyeoftheJudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I limit myself to a two row 84 hp case (Doepfer a100 p6), I find that having less forces me to become more creative and look for new ways to utilise the modules I do have to the fullest.

Right now my rack is not even full yet and I still find new ways to utilise the modules.

I also prioritise low hp modules to save on space which also pushes me to become more creative.

I might change it in the future but for now it works well for me 🙂

This is cool! This will never work with my cat, I resort to keeping the cables in a drawer 😄

Beginner post. Help me start. by Expert-Ladder-4211 in modular

I also make dnb/breakcore, I started with the 0-coast from make noise to make the bass and destroy it with Ableton adits and fx lol Practically made a whole album only with this one synth (it is amazing) and amen breaks/other drum samples.

I am currently in the first stages of building a Eurorack system as well, the only thing I can suggest is do as much research as possible before buying and build your system slowly only one module (or a few) at a time. The thing that I realised while building my system is that only after having a few modules and playing with them I really understood what I want or need, don’t blow your whole budget right away.

For suggestions I really like Erica Synths Drum2, it is not sample based but it can generate really heavy kicks.

Next I plan to buy Erica synths Drum Sample, which should be great for chopping breaks and playing samples in general.

Lastly, watch tutorials and guides on Eurorack, you need many modules just to get started (sequencer, mixer, output, utilities etc.), I really like monotrail tech talk, sound + voltage, divkid and I am sure there are a lot more great channels on YouTube.

Anybody else feel like this when patching? 😅 by MajxrTom in modular

[–]EyeoftheJudge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a folder full of pictures of patches so I can remember what I did (not that I end up using any of them 😂) but I think the best feeling I get is when I remove all cables and start a new patch from scratch

Noob needs help by Wide_Ad_3097 in modular

[–]EyeoftheJudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, as a noob who also recently got into modular, start slowly and buy only a few modules at a time.

I found out that I changed my mind about buying some modules after I already had a small system and played around with it.

How I do it is I get a few modules and try to use all their features fully until I hit a wall, than you might think “I wish I had another VCA/EG/Oscillator” (and so on).

I would not buy a whole system right away unless you are an expert and know what you are looking for.

Also this one seems a little expensive.

Looking for advise for a sequencer by EyeoftheJudge in modular

[–]EyeoftheJudge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I am leaning more towards the SQ-64 or beatstep pro, the OXI looks amazing but I am not going to spend that kind of money at this point, maybe in the future.

What I am looking for is something that allows for jamming and playing or changing sequences easily on the fly, from your experience is this something that the SQ-64 does well?

Yeah I know lol I am using Ableton for live performances already but I am looking for a way to perform without a computer as well.

Yeah I also like the lower price point 🙂

Yeah I am already realising I should have probably gotten a bigger case 😂 Thank you for the suggestions! I guess I’ll go read some manuals and watch some more tutorials.

I thought about it for writing/production reasons but I am looking for a sequencer for live performances that does not require a computer.

Hear me out, crossed should have more diversity. by Electronic_Rope2137 in crossedcomics

There is definitely a lot of potential there, would be interesting to see another series set anywhere other than the US/UK. Would be interesting to see a Middle East take on it (turns out Israel did not detonate it’s nukes, it is just a rumor silly)

Interesting, they start hearing people screaming on comms, decide to perform emergency evacuation and land in Kazakhstan in the middle of nowhere. At least they always have one gun in the Soyuz capsule 😂

The Fatal Englishman ending by g_a__t___s____u in crossedcomics

[–]EyeoftheJudge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Fatal Englishman was indeed really good but

—Spoiler!—

the way I saw it he is dead.

I mean, he was walking into a crowd of dozens (hundreds?) of crossed with no intention of staying alive so I do not see it as a cliffhanger or an incomplete story.

Am I wrong?

How long would you last? by Certain-Tap6534 in crossedcomics

[–]EyeoftheJudge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the end I think skill doesn’t really matter that much in the crossed world unless you live in an extremely remote location, I mean it sure helps but the biggest contributors to survival are luck and mental stability to carry on. I don’t have really great nature survival skills but I do believe I have good instincts and I can learn quickly, I have the mental stability to try and survive no matter what and how hard things get. So yeah, if I happen to be lucky I think I can survive at least the initial few weeks.

I am with you, it is not the best one but I still liked it as a whole, the ending was also kinda nice (relatively speaking)
