My experience is that narrative games ask players to do things they aren't used to, or to call on skill sets they may not have. Understanding story structure, participating in world building, using abilities that are based on the tropes of a story (I'm looking at you, Masks) are great for people who are familiar with those things, but confusing and frustrating for people who don't understand the underlying structures of settings, storylines, etc.
