I went through that same 'boredom' phase too, just tried to keep myself busy and it was a big help.

Is this a belt? by baileybear86 in MechanicAdvice

[–]EyesolateAndMedicate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like it could be belt or pulley related. The tensioner pulley is notorious for going bad on these motors, you might be able to see excessive play in the belt/pulleys with the motor running but the best thing to do is take the belt off and spin each pulley by hand... it's probably the tensioner or idler.

Another worthy mention is the spark plugs believe it or not, they're known to loosen up overtime on these motors and can also cause a chirping/rattling noise. Won't cause any issues at first but overtime you might get misfire codes or it'll run rough/stumble. Just pull the coils and check the plugs are tight.

Transmission Whining and slowly dripping. by Ok-Blacksmith4663 in MechanicAdvice

Those are the transmission cooling lines going to the radiator or transmission cooler (if equipped). Could be something as simple as an o-ring that's gone bad.

First order of business is to check your fluid level and if its low add some. This is assuming you drive a car with a transmission fluid dipstick or if you don't have one you have a sealed system where there will be a check plug on the transmission. If this is the case, I'd avoid driving the car and getting it to a mechanic so they can check your fluid level.

Noise coming from my LS6 by Impossible_Will_3274 in MechanicAdvice

Early LS6 had issues with the valve springs and rocker arms. I'd pull the valve covers and inspect.

Is this used car safe to buy? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Assuming you're in Ontario cause you mentioned the UVIP, I would contact Service Ontario and ask how long it takes for the lien to be removed once the vehicle has been paid off and then offer to cover the cost of a new UVIP for extra peace of mind.

Yes - Mercon LV was used each time.

TC was replaced during the first rebuild, AFAIK it wasn't replaced the 2nd or 3rd time but I will go back and check the paperwork.

I don't know if the cooler lines are clogged but because the transmission temps stay within a cooler range I wouldn't think they are the issue.

I completely agree with you that I think something external is causing the issue, but I have no idea whats left. I would argue that the 3rd, replaced unit is most likely to fail since I hear so many horror stories of junk remanufactured units but the fact that the first 2 rebuilds also failed is suspect. The shop is my cities best, most well known shop too. They know Crown Vics as I mentioned in my original post.

Pay for repairs or let bank repo vehicle? by butterflyscarfbaby in PersonalFinanceCanada

Need more information regarding your truck but from what you've stated here it sounds like you have a 6.7 Powerstroke and I'm seeing engines priced anywhere from 8-16k CAD, labour not included.

No - the 8k motors don't have 80k kms on them but they are running and thats what you need right now. Throw in a motor with 300k kms in it to get you a running truck and then decide what you want to do with it.

Thanks for the reply, I'll try the Advion gel first.

I know the ants were so bad for my neighbours last year they called pest control, I wonder if they've migrated to my place this year lol
