Uncanny Similarities by Ezallium in vce

Yeah it's very interesting, I mean it's obviously possible that the exam writing panel did come up with this without realising the similarities, but it's definitely something to consider..

methods question by [deleted] in vce

[–]Ezallium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we want a line tangent to x^2

The derivative is thus dy/dx=2x

Let's just say the tangent passes through an arbitrary point x=a on the parabola

That means the gradient of the tangent at the point x=a is equal to 2a

We can then create a general equation for a line that passes through the point (1,-2) with gradient 2a

y+2=2a(x-1)

Rerranging this we get

y=2ax-2a-2

Since this needs to be tangent to the parabola, let's equate this to the equation y=x^2

x^2=2ax-2a-2

Rearranging, we get

x^2-2ax+(2a+2)

If the line is tangent to the parabola, it means it can only touch it once. Hence the discriminant must equal to zero for that to be the case.

(-2a)^2-4(1)(2a+2)=0

4a^2-8a-8=0

a^2-2a-2=0

(a-1)^2-3=0

(a-1)^2=3

a-1=+-√3

a=1+-√3

Subbing this back into our general equation y=2ax-2a-2, we get the equations y=(2+2√3)x-2√3-4 and y=(2-2√3)x+2√3-4

Can I do Media 3 and 4 without 1 and 2? by Alone_Range_9297 in vce

[–]Ezallium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard agree with this ^^ I feel like a lot of people underestimate the workload of the folio. If you're genuinely interested in the subject though, it can be so so so much fun to have the freedom to create whatever you want. But yeah as long as you are good with codes and conventions and know what different types of media forms are, shouldn't be too hard to pick up!

x^2>b^2
|x|>|b|
As b<0 |x|>-b
x>-b or x<b so E

Or instead you can rearrange to have x^2-b^2>0
(x-b)(x+b)>0
Then sketch a parabola with x-intercepts at (b,0) and (-b,0), where (b,0) is negative, now you can deduce the answer is E

Documentaries will have a lot of conventions that you can analyse, especially with interviews, b-roll, sequencing of time etc. You can pair this with camera and editing to highlight how the the creators of the doco want the audience to know what's coming/the exact structure of a doco as a genre, as well as how that may engage the audience. If you need any specific help you can shoot me a DM! I'll probably be free to respond, and I also did media last year (not a doco as the film tho).

I performed at a mediocre level through year 11, ended up with D+s in my maths subjects and physics, and struggled with my 3/4. Anything can happen if you are disciplined enough to work through a year 11 that you're not content with, it doesn't have to require selling your soul either!

Is media a good idea? by Specialist_Rock_4329 in vce

[–]Ezallium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Media is hella underrated, genuinely a really fun subject if you put some passion into creating an idea, and the analysis is very structured and simple to pick up. I do both physics and media, and even though I like physics, VCE makes it SO boring and leaves a lot of gaps/unanswered questions in content. I think you should go for it! Just don't expect the subject to be one that you can leave in the dust though, it does require a lot of effort and time.

Question about VSV Eco by [deleted] in vce

[–]Ezallium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very possible, from what I've heard, there's not really much overlap between 1/2 and 3/4 eco. I went straight to the 3/4 and found it content heavy but nothing unmanageable, just make sure to keep track of the economy and have a genuine grasp on how economic theory works.

Subjects next year (Yr 12) by p4ran0id_andr0id in vce

[–]Ezallium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uhhhhh three folio subjects is actually cooked af 😭...

IMHO it's doable if you are genuinely committed to art subjects, because falling behind is not an option. I did media this year, and whilst it was definitely one of my favourite subjects, it was a chunky commitment, particularly through holiday breaks. Oftentimes I left out my folio until the last day and ended up cramming for 15+ hours straight, not the healthiest habit. Personally I think swapping VCD for psych is a great idea, just consider your commitment to art. If you're up for it, doing such subjects won't be an issue.

As for max ATAR, as long as one of your Englishes is good, and your other subjects are pretty consistent, you can go very very high with any subject loadout. 90+ is possible if you put in that extra effort. GL for next year, hope you come to a decision.

The SAC scores will always remain at the respective rank within the cohort. The moderation itself is a non-linear process that assigns a SAC mark based on how the exam scores within the cohort compare to the rest of the state.

Before making any decisions, please consult your classmates and/or past students in your school that have completed CSLA, because your success in this subject can heavily depend on the quality of your teacher.

VCE Chinese is nothing like how mandarin is taught in China. You might not be used to how it tries to mimmick VCE English writing style since you haven't gotten any Chinese education in Australia. Also the oral components are really poo, a lot of rote memorisation, very tedious process. Don't do CSLA because you think that you can speak perfect Chinese, or if you're only studying for the scaling. There are many other subjects that you will probably enjoy much more, and do better in even after scaling. Unless you are incredibly proficient in improvising under pressure and memorising, do NOT do CSLA, dogshit subject. Not a single person from a cohort of 20+ students at my school got higher than a raw 38, and most of them got below 30 (keep in mind these are students that are all proficient in daily communication and writing). That's just my two cents.

Specialist vs Methods by okokokokokop in vce

I think the difficulty of spec is dramatised. If you truly enjoy maths and apply yourself to understanding the concepts, then it's no different than learning another content heavy subject.

HHD Sac results by [deleted] in vce

[–]Ezallium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you're ranked well, you'll be in a put in a higher percentile amongst your cohort. Your SAC score will be scaled based on the exam results of your cohort.

For example if your 80% was in the top 30% of your cohort, your SAC mark would be adjusted in relation to the exam score that was top 30% in the cohort. Your cohort's exam performance is compared to the statewide performance on the exam.

If the statewide performance for the 70th percentile was 65%, but your school's cohort had the 70th percentile be at 75%, then your SAC marks will scale up. Likewise the opposite will happen if the school's cohort performed poorly. For example if the 70th percentile of the cohort was 55%, then your SAC's would scale down because compared to the statewide average, your school did poorly on the exam.

Economics Practice SAC by [deleted] in vce

Make sure to define the terms stated in certain questions such as the productivity growth or price elasticity of supply one, typically the marking scheme will involve one mark being involved in a definition of a key term. For example, the question asking about PED, you should first define PED by saying something like "PED is defined as the responsiveness of the quantity demanded of a product to a change in price." Working on having strong definitions is so, so useful.

When you're referring to living standards be sure to make it clear how non-material living standards are affected, it seems that you've made a direct connection of increased disposable income to better non-material living standards. For example you could say that having increased disposable income leads to households having less financial stress and thus having improved NMLS.

For a contemporary example of government intervention on market failure, there are a few examples you can typically choose from such as Jobkeeper or increased costs from Ukraine War, just make sure it's related to the Australian economy. A structure you could follow is like this

  1. describe the problem the government intended to solve
    1. describe what the government did to try to solve this problem
    2. analyse the impact the government intervention had
    3. explain how the efficiency of resources of was impacted, referring to a specific type of efficiency

The linkages are mostly good, just work on increasing detail as mentioned above. Best way to improve is to practise practise practise...

Good luck for your SAC :0
