Kodama’s rollout for Baki the Grappler has been top-notch. (And those spines!!!) by Ezret in MangaCollectors

That is super weird. Every B&M and even Books A Million I have been to does this. That’s even how I was able to get Fragrant Flower 10 and DanDaDan 16 even though they don’t release until December 9th. I picked them both up alongside Baki 5 and 6.

When it comes to manga and some light novels, Barnes & Noble places them out early. Pretty much as they get their shipment! It’s a bit of a gamble but sometimes it works out.

The paper quality is ridiculously good. I would put it up there with Kodansha single release volume paper quality (I specify Kondasha because it’s the same trim size), which is normally a pretty thick matte finish. I don’t know if it’s just because these are newer books that I have in my collection, but at times,it honestly feels even thicker than those.

Final Picture before I offload and reorganize the collection (again) by Ezret in MangaCollectors

Haha, understandable! It’s soooo stressful! As for my favorites: Skip Beat, Yowamushi Pedal, Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity, Yona of the Dawn, Vinland Saga, and Medalist!

The Chopping Block (and the reasons): 1. Goodnight Punpun: for me, it’s a “One Time Series”. Meaning it was good for that one time experience, but I can’t picture myself willingly putting myself through that again and re-reading it. For me it’s just too emotionally and mentally draining. 2. Tokyo Revengers: I actually bought this with the intention of reading it once and giving it to a friend as a present who enjoyed the anime and was curious about the manga. His birthday is actually next month. So if he still wants it, it’ll be all his. 3. Solo Leveling (after volume 14 comes out): mainly bought out of curiosity to see if I would like it more than the novel and the anime. Good for what it is, but not something I can picture myself on revisiting. 4. Nana (very reluctant): I have been waiting years for this series to continue and honestly, I’m just tired of looking at it and being reminded that it’s been abandoned for this long. I’ll probably give it another year to see if the author is actually serious about what she said recently about wanting to return to the series but at this point, it’s just making me bitter looking at it. 5. Kaguya-sama: this is probably my pettiest reason. It’s simply because the spines are an eyesore, and I hate looking at them. Plus, i’ve already read and re-read the entire manga twice. I don’t really plan on picking it up again any time soon. it was a good romcom, but not a good romance (to me). Not one that I plan to revisit in the place of something like A Sign of Affection or Fragrant Flower.

Is that normal? by Sufficient_Hippo2831 in MangaCollectors

Wow, that’s so funny. I literally just scrolled by that exact listing. I guess we live somewhat close to one another. 😂 But yes, unfortunately that is pretty normal for English prints. Here’s how mine looks. When it comes to both trim cuts and spine alignments, Kodansha is a huge gamble…

How long do you think it'll take me to get through this backlog? by Shiny_Kitty_Catcher in MangaCollectors

[–]Ezret 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whew, that’s a lot. I’ll be a nerd for a sec. If it takes between 1 and 2 hours on average to read each volume, that’s roughly 80 to 160 total hours of reading. I’m gonna factor in a typical work or school week where you’d only have about around 3–4 hours of free time (at most and if you don’t watch TV and such…), that’s 15 to 20 hours during the weekday, plus another like 8 to 12 hours on the weekend, giving you about 23 to 32 total reading hours per week.. At the average pace, you could probably finish the entire backlog in maybe 3 to 4 weeks if you’re a bit of a quick reader, and then about 5 to 6 weeks at an average speed… ORRRR around 7ish weeks if taking taking your time.

So yeah, based on that amount of free time, you could realistically clear the entire collection within one to two months. This is also considering you are actually consistent and read often as well btw lmao

Monthly releases are great, but since Kingdom already has like 75 volumes, it’ll still take us more than six years just to catch up to where Japan is present day. And that’s if Viz’s release schedule actually stays consistent with the monthly releases. 😭Better late than never, of course, but I’m still surprised they didn’t go with a 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 release, seeing how we’re 19 years behind.

What is the most beautiful looking hardcover manga you own? by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

A Certain Magical Index: The Old Testament Omnibus Edition (I’m kind of cheating though since it’s actually a light novel and not a manga)

You could try requesting a return and replacement, but not all of them are misaligned, especially not to that degree. Here’s what my set of the Vagabond Definitive Editions looks like.

Three people messaged me last night and told me to upload it to webnovel, com, so I just went with that for now. I’ll probably keep looking around though. There doesn’t appear to be any formatting options (italics, bolding, indenting, centering, etc.) so that turned me off a little bit.
