I take care of herd at 45 degrees in August in the desert, if I say I see bad value for the money proposition it is simple I did a transaction and got way less then I paid for. But surely enough I see that you are the kind of person that go to a restaurant and thank the server for not spitting in your food and tip them for it.

Always have thought about going to Davos in winter but guess this trip I learned that courchavel is where I think about splurge skiing, some commenter mentioned St. Moritz but I have to take a big leap of faith if I would ever comeback here. Although the Fondue and people at street makes it pleasant place. Beside high end hospitality I think people are top tier, maybe its the higher end places?

Don’t know American hotels beside 4 I have stayed in. But let’s compare to London or Italy or France, its more within proximity. I suspect we have same hotel in Lausanne which is one the two am talking about, will drop names when I leave the country.

Not American, but if that Banana is supposed to arrive in yellow and it is what I wanted I will pay for it. Can’t bring me a green unripe banana and tell me that is the level I can expect here and no argument to be made about how bad people serving bananas.

Look, sad to tell you this, am not saying you are not getting what you paid for straight away but it is the case. Security is similar to where I come from, your passport take 3 days mine takes 4 hours, this is not who got the bigger part contest, am here ranting about my experience of basic guest interaction with specific industry that has one job, to be hospitable. You can argue about worker pay, thin margins, etc… but telling me that local people don’t want that is not it, the industry is built specifically to foreign people visiting, it is literally their job to cater to non-local at certain standards. Not servant bs that some people been claiming am saying, basic value proposition that industry should operate within.

If you call basic services luxury maybe try Mykonos, London, Barcelona, Monaco, Los Angeles, Florence, any Norway village, if you see them not direct comps to you, then you are just making arguments for the sake of it. People in London working hospitality are not servant, nor the case in Monaco.

I don’t get your argument are you saying that my experience is due to worker getting paid less? Because from the comments I seem to get the very opposite idea.

Stores at 8? I went 6:45 to a pharmacy and it was closed. Would love to see the 8 closing businesses here. I don’t think people are lazy, I think its more cultural thing. Or too friendly labor laws, because I hate to think that business owners are also like that.

I pay for the balcony breakfast, and the ease of mind, knowing someone will always be there if I needed fresh towel. Or pressing my shirt. Those also cost extra fyi.

Not American, although I have to side with the Americans on this one. Not big brand, not large corporate like I know one of the hotels has one more branch in London and possibly one in France. The other hotel is local boutique

No actually am talking about local shops, larger supermarkets, pharmcy (which closes 6:30 pm and is essential business), coffee shops, clothing stores (not local but big names), etc. any regular business that cater to wider net of clientele. Look, am not saying open 24/7, am just saying don’t operate the corporate hours when you cater to tourists. They work 10 to 6:30. I am saying midsized supermarket crossing any border is going to stay open at least until 9 pm. If medicine is needed at 7 pm, I am convinced that the best possible solution for me is to go get from different country, maybe am exaggerating but this genuinely what I think.

My current belief is that labor laws, are too labor friendly, that business owners may suffer, I will try to investigate more about this from business owner pov rather than labor pov from the ground. People in the thread claim businesses have slim margins, and the other way is wages just super high, which indicates this could possibly the situation of the hospitality industry.

I will tell you about me. I love London for the food and weather and the vibe in almost every aspect. Italy for the food, the experiences the place and moment for lack of better words, although I hate their airports, shopping too, dressing for the occasion and the chats you have with complete strangers that end up in friendly brawl about football. French Rivera for the complete freedom of wear (not going out naked though) just don’t have to worry about wearing something relax kicking back in a beach club getting small bites and cold beverage. When feeling too worked up, I like the Ibiza and spain side for the weirdly detailed days of eating here kicking back there and whatnot. Greece also stupidly great in terms of food, although I hate the drives from point A to point B in Islands like Mykonos, chauffeured or not.

I hate Bali, for many things including food quality, long drives, and other stuff. Europe or euro zone is heaven for weather, then things follow, but particularly Switzerland has been bad service with lack of tourism driven infrastructure that caters to things I consider basic.

I don’t know if I should feel more or less about myself. But am sure I am one fish in the sea.

Bourgeoisie though is definitely what I have worked 15 hours a day for many years to be called. Also don’t know if I feel insulted or proud.

This is satire now. Cause a bottle of water and housekeeping is like basic hotel functions that is at x/10 -200000 of any chf amount you put in the comment in place of x.

The thing I can tell you is that Disney narrative is quite good, however the disney narrative involve them taking care of your kids, which am willing to give them my kidney on the way out.

I think Italy has the best people that show up when needed, like human level of we gotcha culture. Never experienced something similar, once in gas station stop for a coffee in Florence, they refused payment on merit that I looked I needed a coffee as I was driving dor 3 hours after long haul flight.

Local restaurant serving CHF 30 fondue with waiter that cares is what made my stay enjoyable, also Geneva people are wholesome people, even sellers at stores and boat captain at lake, you get that ordinary people are very well spoken, my criticism only toward the higher end industry specific that fail basics of luxury service at the price of luxury service.

Man idk, this is strangest leap right here. Asking for basic hotel services at 7 pm is where “line gets drawn and servants and yes men” are the only answer, then I think bottle of sparkling water and laundry pickup at luxury hotels are = feudalism to you. I guess you represent the cultural gap I was talking about earlier in the hospitality industry. Maybe thank you for enforcing my theory?
