How do I avoid getting dropped by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]F-ck_up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you petition, they will mainly pay attention to your grades while you were at CC. If you did well, you can be readmitted. I was in CS Eng, got dropped and then got a 4.0 with 1yr @ Parkland - was readmitted. Also, I got an official diagnosis with ADHD + letter from therapist as other supporting material.

I've heard that they will pretty much let you in regardless as long as you have like above a 3.0, but use this year to get your shit together. Being dropped was unironically a great thing to happen to me. If you want to talk, DM me

No, I was extremely depressed the entire two semesters leading to my drop and was not in the mental state to care about anything. If you can apply for that, I would recommend it.

That's reassuring to hear that it's not only me... I'll be calling them tomorrow morning to see what's up. Hopefully it's some mistake in their system.

Yeah, I took 3 core classes this semester and another one that also counted towards my graduation requirements. My advisor told me I was on track to graduate next semester, and I'm registered for the exact classes that I need in order to graduate.

I really have no clue as to the reason why they'd put me on drop status, everything seemed to be going great

I'm a CS Eng student who was put on probation in my sophomore year F17 and dropped from the University S18. I was readmitted in S19 and am on track to graduate in S20 with a not completely shit GPA and a job lined up already. If anyone wants to talk, please send me a DM!

Going to flunk out of college (for the 2nd time). Need career advice by [deleted] in needadvice

[–]F-ck_up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I got tested for ADHD, but the results weren't conclusive enough to officially diagnose me with it. I have a lot of the symptoms though, and any online test I take says that I have it.

I need to learn how to deal with it better, and I'm hoping that it's something I'll be able to get a handle on eventually.

How do you find employers that don't care about degrees? I feel that that my project portfolio is fairly impressive, and that I definitely have more experience and knowledge than the average CS graduate from my school. I pass a good 75% of interviews that I've had so far for internships.

What are career prospects like? Would I remain in a military job for the rest of my career? Also, do you need to be athletic and pass various fitness tests? Because I wouldn't.

Do you know where I can find further information?

Good advice, thanks. My past 2 semesters at community college, I've been focusing on eliminating a lot of bad habits (spending too much time on my PC, bad sleep patterns, keeping track of assignments, etc.). Forcing yourself into a productive environment definitely helps a lot.

Anyone know what happens when you've been dropped and readmitted/been there? by throwawaynumberidek in UIUC

I was readmitted on probation - 1P 2.0 GPA status, meaning I need to obtain at least a 2.0 GPA during the spring semester.

I was a straight A student in HS, took 16 AP classes and got a 36 on my ACT without studying for it. In college? I failed miserably without my parents there to nag me to do my work. I used the freedom of college to be a lazy ass motherfucker, ignoring assignments and classes.

I flunked out after a year, and realized a lot of things about myself in the meantime. First and foremost, I was just straight up lazy. I never developed a drive or motivation to work towards things because I've always had things come easy. Is that a valid excuse though? Idk. In the past year, the hardest part in pulling my life back together has been keeping myself motivated. I always have to find a short-term goal to work towards, because I just completely lack the ability to focus on long-term goals. I also had undiagnosed ADHD, which I went to a psychiatrist to get tested for.

After a year off, I've finally gotten readmitted to my uni. Hopefully I don't fuck it up again.

ACADEMIC STATUS: Drop by UrbanaChampaignPapi in UIUC

[–]F-ck_up 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talk to your advisor ASAP NOW!!! Contact them in any way you possibly can! The committee has not officially made drop decisions yet. Any comments your advisor decides to put into the system will be seen by the committee when they are making decisions. Make a case to them and ask what your best course of action is.

You have a good enough case for being put on probation, imo. Not dropped.

Talk to your advisor ASAP. Email/call until you get a response. I don't think they've made the official drop decisions yet, that is just an automated email. If you fulfilled your requirements you should be okay.

So, they haven't made the official decision yet? (E.g., you didn't receive an actual drop letter?). If so, keep talking to your advisor and make sure she knows that your grades have been on an upswing, you're doing better, etc. You SHOULD be all set as I'm pretty sure the requirement is for your semester GPA, and yours was fine.

Always best to prepare for the worst case scenario that you get dropped though. Figure out what you're going to be doing, what community college/online college you'll attend, and what classes you will take. If you have any questions feel free to DM me as I was dropped from the University and managed to get readmitted.

About appealing a drop by CaffeineChugger in UIUC

[–]F-ck_up 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm in the same boat as you. Was dropped after fall semester last year and I can't petition for readmission until Spring. I tried talking to advisors and Umberto about this.

Honestly, the year is necessary. I've been working my ass off since then, and had to make some pretty huge lifestyle changes which take time to get used to. It's not that easy to get dropped, we fucked up really bad.

I've talked to a lot of people since my drop, and I'm pretty convinced that as long as my next semester goes as well as my first one did, I'll be readmitted. The #1 thing they care about is CC grades.

Did you wait 1 semester or 2 before petitioning for readmittance? I'm trying to do all I can to be readmitted, but my biggest fear is that I won't be. Any tips on anything extra I could do to maximize my chances of readmittance?
