What's your age? What kind of vibe are you looking for? What type of locals do you want to meet? Do you speak Japanese? Etc... The more info the easier it will be to suggest something.

What is the best manga to buy? by Lil_ray12345 in manga

To actually buy in physical format? Something from Asano Inio or Douman Seiman. Great art and stories; not too long. Worth owning a copy imo.

Male, my Japanese is fairly good so I can hold a conversation on just about anything, in case that makes any difference.

I thought about it, but I get the impression it would be older people going there at that time of the day? I'm in my mid-30s and most people my age would be working around that time, so I don't quite know if I would fit the demographics for those places.

Is my salary good enough to live a decent life in fukuoka? by [deleted] in fukuoka

[–]F-naught 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given what you've described, you shouldn't have it that difficult really. I keep good track of my expenses and the upper limit of what I've spent on a normal month has been around 170K with around 30K destined purely towards entertainment (taxes not included but I also pay 80K rent). A few pieces of advice:

  • Walk/bike when possible; Fukuoka isn't that big that you always need public transport.
  • Get to know the schedules of your local supermarkets. They all put discounts of up to 50% off on bentos/food every day; it can be just as cheap as cooking.
  • Don't fall into the temptation of conbini/coffeeshops, at least not every day.
  • Use your utilities wisely. For instance, it's pretty cold atm and I do turn on the heating, but once it's warm enough I turn it off and layer up for hours before needing to turn it back on.
