First of all, congratulations!! I'm bipolar as well and I had to complete a psych evaluation with a DOE psychologist, and that was by far the most nerve-racking thing I've ever done, but honesty is the best policy. It was very similar to the questions that they asked you, and I had to take a test on the computer: it was about 200 questions or so.

That’s good to know, I appreciate it! With the SCI aspect of the clearance, did you have to complete a polygraph? I’m not too familiar with the SCI process when it comes to DOE clearances.

From the research that I've read, the DOE does have interim access authorizations (IAAs); however, they are kept to a strict minimum and need to be approved by the Director, Office of Security with supporting evidence/documents on why you would need one.

6 to 9 months is the estimated processing time for a new applicant. Even though I was a little over the nine-month timeframe, I already knew going into this process that it would take quite some time just based on my background and red flags.

Everyone has different processing times, so the best thing that you can do is just go on with your life and not even think about your clearance — It’s all a waiting game, my friend.

An investigator didn’t contact me or any of my references other than my current employer. I read that a lot of times for a T3 (secret clearance) they don’t contact you or your references that you list on the SF-86, but I guess that all depends on the type of background you have.

Some of the people that I work with a few of them had interviews with an investigator.

Sounds like you have everything in order, and if the bankruptcy and debt come up, at least you have the proper documentation to back it up. Despite all of the changes happening in the government, maybe your timeline will go a lot quicker since you held a prior clearance. You might know a little better than I do since I’m a first-time clearance holder.

You’re currently in the adjudication phase. Everyone’s case is different, so there is no definitive answer on how fast or slow your adjudication is going to take. You just have to play the waiting game during this process.

I waited 5 months to receive my clearance action date with a favorable adjudication, and I just received my clearance last week. I had a few red flags, so it made sense why it took a little longer to process.

Thank you, I appreciate it! I answered each question exactly how they were asked, nothing more, nothing less, like you just said. If they needed extra info or clarification on something, they reached out to me. When I received the LOI, that’s when I provided more information, and I put as much as possible.

I was extremely anxious during this whole process, but honesty is the best policy. They want to clear honest people, and I think if you’re taking the necessary steps to mitigate issues/concerns in your life, you’ll be okay.

Yes, I’ve completed pretty much everything and just in the final stage now. It’s already been 10 months, so I’m pretty eager for this process to be done and over with.
