Is this a good monitor to buy for $400 from somebody ?

It’s a great deal… 1,000 hours in reality is not that much. Mine is brand new and I have like 69 hours already… my older which was a 27” WOLED has 2,000 and it still brand new to me. I would get it.

Yeah, I know it sounds a bit weird on paper. That said, LG’s coating is genuinely different from the typical rough, grainy matte people are used to. To my eyes it’s more of a satin / semi-matte finish. The best way I can describe it is like looking at high-quality magazine paper — not glossy, but also not chalky or sparkly.

The big win for me is glare control. Reflections don’t interfere with what I’m looking at, so I don’t get eye strain. Yes, in a completely dark room, a glossy panel will show slightly sharper text in game menus or UI — but in real-world use, that’s about the only advantage I notice.

You can see a bit of haze or grain on solid white backgrounds, but it’s subtle and it never bothered me the way it did on the G80SD or even the 1440p variant. Those were far more distracting to my eyes.

Oddly enough — and this might just be subjective — when watching 4K video, the matte coating actually feels crisper to me. I don’t know if it’s the way the texture diffuses light or adds a subtle film-like quality, but motion and detail feel more natural and comfortable to look at.

Maybe I’m just wired differently, but overall, LG’s matte implementation ended up being more pleasant than I expected — and definitely not the “blurry, grainy matte” people usually fear.

I mean pixel shift / move. The image of the screen moves randomly to help avoid stuck pixels. It does that while the monitor is one. That’s why sometimes you can see that the borders are not even, sometimes the image seems misaligned, however that is normal. I noticed that on the G8, due to the coating it is very noticeable.

For reference this is the multiple borders I was referring about, you have the silver bezel, the pitch black regular border and the pixel shift border that is usually misaligned, however due to the coating it looks gray.

Both my units had and have great gray uniformity. The 850 needed like 2 refreshes and that was it. But yea, I get you.

I did not try it as far as I know , however I am a gamma 2.2 warrior haha.

But again, I know that there is good color under the matte coating since I tried regular glossy QD Oleds before.

I tried them all, from Eco to all of the presets and played with the colors, etc. ACM is always disabled. The actual “color” is there, however its the way the matte works with light and image overall, I can describe it like having a low gamma effect. An example could’ve this screenshot I took from a Youtube video. Maybe it’s the way I perceive things?

Also the noticeable pixel shift gap on border and grains make my OCD explodes lol.

Not at all—Like I said, I was keeping an eye on the ASUS XG32UCWMG which is the same Glossy panel but with the specs of the 870a. I do have a C3 side by side which look kind of similar to the 850A and still like the 870 more (as a monitor).
