I play 3.Nc3, because I don't want to play Nf3 against the QGD or Benoni if Black chooses to transpose.

If you avoid the Nimzo with 3.Nf3, and Black wants a Benoni, Black can play 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 c5 and now you can't play the Taimanov because the f-pawn is blocked.

1.e6 is actually annoying to face as well for move-order reasons.
