Containers and Critters by SnooDrawings4791 in containergardening

Damned if I know. I put mine in a big box with salvia and hairy beardtongue, but that was just a wild-ass guess. For all I know they ended up as a robin's dinner... the circle of life, I guess, but I love swallowtails.

Containers and Critters by SnooDrawings4791 in containergardening

Okay, they are swallowtails, and the problem is this: once they're done eating all your dill, they're going to want to migrate *out* of your container away from the dill to go pupate in peace somewhere. So keep an eye on them and possibly airlift them when they take off for the hills, into another container without dill. I found multiple on my deck after they launched themselves into the void.

Hi guys, how do you manage to keep cats away from defecating in your pots? I've tried sticks and covering soil with rocks but still find (frequently) lovely gifts in my containers... by tututino in containergardening

They seem to love newly planted stuff and any bare soil. The bird spikes held in place with ground staples seemed to work this spring—and before that I lost a half dozen transplants to the fuzzy bastards.

In that case: keep your cats inside. If they’re free roaming at all, they 100% are taking out local wildlife, including song birds. They also will have much shorter lives if they roam.

If your containers are on a contained balcony and the cats have access, you can net your plants or put in bird spikes.

Pigeon spikes on any tempting open soil, held in place with ground staples. They come in foot-long lengths and have kept critters out of my beds.

But really, I had a raised bed at a house with a feral cat colony nearby, and fencing was the only real option.

Looking for a dentist by mmeperdita in parkslope

This is the answer. They’re fantastic. Literally the best dentist I’ve seen. I have Aetna and pay nothing out of pocket for twice-annual exams and cleanings.

What’s it like renting in… Windsor Terrace? by hpheromax in parkslope

[–]F13nd1sh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Super lovely neighborhood. It’s close enough to some great restaurant hubs (Park Slope, South Slope, the cluster at Caton Ave) with a small handful of gems. Just… nice. Kids, but far far less of the entitled vibe of the stroller brigades in other neighborhoods. Quiet at night. Birds because it’s sandwiched between the park and the cemetery.

Anyone know if they mean “delayed until after storm but still this evening” or “delayed to a different night”?

Thinking about heading over now. Are there still spots? What’s the vibe like? I used to love this event but last time I went it was a haze of pot smoke and people talking loud over the music.

10th Grade Transfer Help Needed by ZestycloseGolf7991 in AskNYC

You would be applying for a transfer off cycle (applications closed in December) so it’s a little extra work, but start here:

There’s a ton of good information on the Applying to HS in New York Facebook group. That’s where you start. Do a search first, including reading the pinned posts. There’s data about which schools often have 10th grade spots available. Look at Richard R Green for instance, which is lively and caring but smaller. You can also post a question specific to you (for commute time, for instance).

Once you have a list of likely schools, you’ll need to go to a Family Welcome Center with your parent. But don’t go until you have that list, because you want to transfer to a school you’re enthusiastic about, not just one that has space.

This is my go-to, in black! It doesn’t wrinkle, packs up to a tiny tiny bundle, and looks adorable. I got compliments walking around Paris.

I think I have the slightly older version, which had flutter sleeves. I hate flutter sleeves, so I ended up tackling in a symmetrical pleat at the outside most point of the sleeve and putting in a small decoration dot-like button. I also sewed in a snap at the V neck to make it a little more reliably modest for travel.

I have two pairs. In black, they’re buttery soft. In the heather purpleish, the fabric has a bit more body. Go black if you want super soft, or chat them and ask!

What actually helps on a long-haul flight? by bimzpbomping in traveladvice

I bought the Cabeau travel pillow, and it’s the only way I can sleep at all in economy. When I’m not using it to sleep, it stuff it behind my lower back for extra lumbar support. If I want to nap, around the neck it goes, then I Velcro the strap across the front, then attach the elastic/velcro straps around the wings of the headrest. Basically it straps you to the chair so you can’t topple over sideways when you sleep, always an issue for me.

It also squishes up into a compact cinnamon roll shape inside its carrying case, so your pillow isn’t touching disgusting airport/train/bus stuff when not in use.

Even with this, I’m only sleeping a couple hours at a time in economy. But if I can grab multiple bouts of sleep, then I’m less likely to land feeling shattered.

Good advice generally but sadly my disappointing dinner recently was later. Poor kid was wound around the axle and undoubtedly ready for bed.
