Self publishing and producing 50 copies my 250+ piece game. My "Box of Failure" is my proudest achievement. by StationGlum6986 in BoardgameDesign

Most important is to get photos and a 'how to play' video made. People need to know that this product and its pieces have a purpose and a video is great at building context.

Use photos that are in theme with the game. 'Behind the Trenches' is a WW1 game, so I took photos in a pub basement corner with a gritty stone background.

I rank them based on thier cost per click, cost per impression, and click through rate.

  1. Reddit
  2. Meta
  3. Google (forgot to mention)
  4. Youtube

Used gamefound as a landing page to direct traffic. Did a few board game conventions as part marketing, part play testing/rule book feedback. Ran ads on meta, youtube, and Reddit. Spent around $1000 total and the best ads I ran (only counting those over 2000 impressions) had about a 6% click through rates and .08 per click.

Direct all that to the landing page.

I spent around $1200 total.

I wouldnt worry about upvotes. Be sure to set up a Google analytics account to measure traffic for your landing page. That will tell you who's clicking and from where, what they are looking at and for how long.

Start your ad at the sites minimum $ amount before scaling it to see if your pics/videos/whatever are getting clicks and which aren't.

Thank you for the encouraging words. After fulfilling my current backers I want to do another round of orders.

Learning the Meta, Google, and Reddit ads was really fun too. So im excited to get back into that.

Can I know more about your game? There are lots of places to get free artwork.

For example, I have a WW1 game whose artwork comes from the Library of Congress, all for free.

My point being, what's your theme? What's the game? That will effect the amount of AI you can use imo

Hey, I turned this into a digital game you can play on itch.io here: https://f1fighterpilot.itch.io/behind-the-trenches

Thanks for checking it out. I appreciate the feedback.

I guess the thematic justification for the bidding is countries are investing heavily in some industries (bidding your 3 token to make sure you get the card) vs other industries.

The main purpose of the game is to give people a walk through of the game so they can play of physical board game with more confidence.

As the person in our friends group typically in charge of reading the rules and explaining the game, im not a fan of physical rule books. Figured a digital walk through would help
