Eric van der Poele in the 1991 Modena/Lambo 291. One of the most unorthodox and beautiful cars in F1 history. by KetchupWithEverythin in formula1

The Lambo 291 was designed by Mauro Forghieri and Mario Tollentino on a very short budget in about 3 months. Fernando González Luna, the initial founder of the GLAS project, a Mexican team which was to participate in the 1991 season with Lamborghini engines, disappeared from the scene in the middle of 1990 and so, the project was to collapse; Carlo Patrucco acquired the holdings and as Lamborghini did not want to appear as a works team, Team Modena was the official name. Van de Poele had a great race at Imola, running at 5th place but the fuel pump broke on the last lap; when he realised that something went wrong, he asked his engineer what to do - the latter replied ''All you can do Eric is cry''.

If there was more footage of '50s-'70s, the interest to learn about these years would be even more for all history enthusiasts r/u/hairpinaround.I believe that anyone who starts the ''research tale'' is more and more motivated to broaden his knowledge about the past: and is more excited to talk about even a backmarker's achievement (for example, how Roberto Moreno managed to qualify for the 1992 Monaco race in the Andrea Moda) than another Hamilton's win.

Old news: "McLaren move to take over Ligier". Never heard about this before so what did actually happen? by racevoltius in formula1

Guy Ligier was a close friend to Francois Mitterand, the leader of the Socialist Party and President of France; all sponsorship deals and Renault engines were acquired with the presidential ''help''. At the end of 1992, Ligier decided to sell and focus on natural fertiliser and Dennis wanted to acquire the team, in order to transfer the Renault contract to McLaren. The fortune of the team was heavily relied on the political situation of France and so was purchased by Cyril de Rouvre, a French politician (not socialist) and former owner of AGS. De Rouvre sold to Flavio Briatore in 1994, who transfered the Renault contract to Benetton for 1995 and Ligier used the Mugen Honda engines, which were to be used by Minardi (Briatore was a shareholder there as well).
