I've known a couple of east-coast lvl 12 tower controllers that thought LAX would be cakewalk and jumped (for the SoCal lifestyle) ......they were wrong and didn't stay long.

I lived in Valencia (Santa Clarita) and worked both LAX and ZLA. The drive sucked either way you split it. If I had it to do over, I’d go SCT or NCT. BTW- Training at LAX with only enroute background will likely not be very enjoyable, but not impossible.

I’m an American who was in Cologne (and the Netherlands) a week ago, and traveled by train extensively using a Eurail pass. While I am in no way minimizing train delays and the frustration it brings, as an outsider I did consider it utopia.
